Thank you bob. That’s what I’m trying to accomplish with this one.

Yesterday I got the passengers floorboard finished up and today I got the rear quarters in place. Also got the back sheet made. Tomorrow I will roll beads in it to keep it from rattling around too much and get it welded in place, hopefully. Once I get that done, I’ll move onto the upper corners. Eventually I plan on covering the upper bits so I won’t need to roll those. Anyhow, here’s some pictures.

Almost forgot, a coworker came up to me today and his father in law is allowing him to sell a few cars off their land. Turns out, a few are cars I was trying to acquire a few years back. The last 2 pictures are of one of the cars I am going to buy on Friday.

Nice work on those panels! Those two cars appear to be pretty solid, but it's hard to tell what the lower portions look like - have you had a close look at them? What are they? You guys are pretty lucky with the lack of salt out there. My step son lived in Valmarie for a few years, and I'd asked him to scout around for something old and solid, but it never materialized.

That’s just one of the 2 I’ll be getting. If I remember correctly, this ones a 28 or 29 Chevy. The other one I’m getting is an Oakland. Not much left on the Oaky but the cowl and frame.

Got more of the interior finished up today. Soon enough she’ll be ready to put the roof on. Also, I forgot to post pictures of the fuel tank mounted.

The car in your pictures is a '31 Oakland or Pontiac. [cl

.

Got one home today and Dr, you were correct. Vin tag shows it as a 31. And the only thing stating Pontiac on it is a small crest in the center of the dash.

The other is a 1927 Oakland. I’m not sure if it was a sedan turned into a truck or if it was a truck from the beginning. Forgot to get pictures of it as I was roaming around and digging through all their cool old stuff. This was an operating farm all the way up until the family all passed away and my co workers in-laws bought it. Turns out the fella before didn’t throw anything away and what I see as being worth something, they see it as junk. Unfortunately, they aren’t willing to make a deal on the oaky at this point in time but hopefully sometime down the road. In one of the outbuildings there is a 67 Ford falcon in pristine condition, another building houses a 39 Chevy truck, there’s a 52 Chevy flatbed, late 40s or early 50s stude dumptruck, a 51 Pontiac chieftain deluxe, and a 51 Chevy style line coupe on the property also along with a plethora of old tractors and farm equipment. I could probably spend a whole week out there looking through stuff.

Started on the upper rear corners today. Got too damn hot out in the shop to continue anymore for the day. I’ll get the drivers side finished up tomorrow morning after work. Need to get more argon for my tig on Monday and then I’ll be able to weld the rest of the rear center section in.

My apologies for breaking your thread, endicott, but I was struck by the Oakland/Pontiac and couldn't hold my tongue!

That emblem is cool as cool can be! [cl

What tips it off as an Oakland or Pontiac? I honestly don't know the unique differences between those and a Chevy in those years.

The differences are in the cowl, beltline and bead details. Study the GM examples below. Note the door handle locations and bead at the rear window...

'31 Buick...

'31 Chevy two door sedan, because the lines are easy to see...

'31 Chevy four door sedan...

'31 Pontiac or Oakland. (Near as I can tell, Oakland and Pontiac bodies are the same.)

It’s all good Dr. This is what the internet was meant for, sharing information. Be on the lookout for when I start building this car, in like 2 years or so. I have 2 more projects lined up before I can start on the Pontiac.

So enough Pontiac talk...for now. Back to the Essex/A. Got the other rear corner skinned this morning and skinned the rear window opening. Tomorrow I plan on getting the rear quarter windows skinned and make my blanking plate for the hole in the rear shelf. Once all that is said and done, I will bring the ford hood in and see how she fits as far as the roof goes. I am sure I will have to pie cut it a few times to get it to line up with the rest of the body and possibly narrow it. I haven’t been able to pull it out of my pile to measure it up so I’m kind of at a point where I am crossing my fingers that it’ll fit. Also, Friday evening I made a deal on a running ford 312 so I can stuff it between the frame, drive the car, and rebuild my current 312 eventually. With the luck I have had with engines, I’ll probably only get a year or two out of it before I have to swap engines.

Inside is all skinned and ready for the final touches. Tomorrow I’m gonna start on the roof. Seeing as Leslie is white as snow and can burn within 5 seconds of being outside, this car will have a full roof. Just wait and see what I have in store. This weekend I plan on going down to Twin Bridges to pick up a running 312 so that once I have everything finished up body and frame wise I can pretty much just get in and go.
