Just a heads up, if'n you are thinking about going to Bonneville for speed week (and why wouldn't you be) the big casinos just opened up the reservations for hotel rooms, they are overpriced and selling out quick, still some smaller places to stay if you need. And always free camping at the bend in the road. See ya there, if you make the trip, let me know we can swap stories about the long drive.

Aug 7th Tech. racing at dawn on the 8th thru the next week. I will be the early for tech and stay thru Mon. or Tues. PM when it gets closer and we can do the phone number thing for the "big annual Rat Rod Rules get together"……………………not affiliated with world renown RRR website.

when we went in 2013 we stayed at the KOA camp ground in Salt Lake City. Only an hour ride out and nice and clean.

I went some time in the late '80s. It was a gas. I had future in-laws high up in SCTA at the time, so I got to play with the officials. I think I have a souvenir from an engine that didn't finish the run in one piece.

other orginazations also run events at bonneville.

RAINOUTS

always check the weather, (last year was a rain out. )
and a few years ago we drove 300 miles and it was also rained out.

I drove 850 miles last year and they declared it a rain out about an hour before I showed up. I had tried to stay on top of things by checking the SCTA website but they did not update their site or even have any up to date info, kinda lame of them.

I have it on good authority (from a founding member) that SCTA stands for Senior Citizens Timing Association. :D They are older than me, so I can see where they might forget about a few details.

Still a bummer you made the trip for nada.

You so right, not much going fast last year, so I sat around and talked rods with some of the biggest names in the hot rod world who all had nothing else to do except look at cars and bs. The hotel I stayed at last year had a UK team with a great MGA (fox motor) shipped thru LA, and a fun team from Germany with their pit truck and bike shipped thru Houston to get there, we all thought it was a good trip.

Oh, I still had fun. And you are right on the SCTA. I tried to talk to them at their T-shirt trailer and I'm pretty sure anything more technical than a big rock was beyond those guys I met.

From another avid salt guy:

The Brit's are coming back. Even after the disappointment of last year, where we never even got our bikes out of the vans, which was a bit of a pain for my team as we were going to sleep in ours on the "Bend". Ended up getting ripped off by a motel owner who raised his prices from $40 to $175 a night because it was Speed Week, even though everyone was going home!
Can't wait, my Indian Scout is now supercharged, & the whole team has some pretty good machines, we're shipping over a 40ft container full of them. "Salt Fever" is a horrible disease, it empties your wallet & makes you live in your garage for every spare second.
Anyone else coming from overseas?

Some day that might be us. We better have our fun while we can.
