Hadn't been to post office all week, decided it was time to check the mail. Nice day so I took my wife's 48 chev sedan that she got for Christmas.
Checked the tires to make sure they had air.

So when do you think Sears last sold Allstate 600x16 3" WWWs? Although these have about 50% tread maybe time to find replacements.

Cycledog,
Few questions for ya...I was a tire specialist for, mmm, mmm,Well longer than I care to remember.
1-Do you see any obvious dry rot cracking?
2-If so, how much and how big are the cracks?
3-Are her WWW still white or have they turned a yellow looking color?

Not any real rot or cracking that is obvious, haven't checked the back side.
Her wide whites have always been great. The tires on the other hand are just starting to discolor. Thought maybe I can brighten them with some Westlys bleach white.

OK,
If there is no obvious dry rot, (or some very small signs) I would not worry about it till the tread really shows signs of wear.
Westlys bleach white is a great product to use to breath som life back in to the tires. Might be a good idea to remove the tires from the car one at a time and clean them that way. Brillo pad the black surface and westlys on the white. But put something on the inside sidewall of the tire to keep it hydrated as well as the outside.

Sears has a lifetime guarantee on tools, maybe they cover 50 year old tires too. :D :D

I think you are right, they probably haven't sold these for awhile. Reminds me of the Midas Muffler commercial where the old guy in the Model A keeps coming back for replacement mufflers because it has a lifetime warranty. He keeps the warranty papers in a safe place.:p
