Hey Everyone!

3 Wheels & a Block brings you another project... A 1970 K-5 Blazer....

Picked this jewel up from the owner a week ago and here was the diagnosis:

- Engine dies going down hill, stalls out at stop signs...
- Enging runs rich and idles too high
- Poor MPG about 4 MPG
- Engine bay wires need attention
- Tail light & Brake Light issues
- Dash wiring messy underneath (wires hanging)

Below is a picture of the K-5

Most of that could come around good. Don't worry too much about the mileage...depends on the setup it has but these brutes were never known for economy.

Now to the work side of things...

All righty....

1st thing was to track down all the vaccum leaks and reconfigure the vacuum hoses to the correct location...

2nd clean up the engine bay wiring and under dash...

3rd noticed the smell of old fuel so out with the gas and in with 100% and no more ethanol...

Good point! :D .... On a 22 miles drive it went through 5/8 of a tank of fuel which I thought was excessive.... I don't remmeber off the top of my head what the tank size was on those guys...

More Surprises

After getting the vacuum leak resolved and the choke set back to the original position.... The K-5 seemed to be much happier.... I discovered teh carb had been adjusted to compensate for the vacuum leak, so it was dumping in the fuel ...

further investigation spotted a dirty spark plug... no surprise with all the gas dumping in the combustion chambers... and some nicely split spark plug boots.... this combination I attribute to the small mis-fire I noticed after the vacuum isses were resolved. Fortunately the wires were still in good shape. ;)

While I was working under there I also replaced an undersized ground cable...

Clean-up Aisle 4... Well.. Bay 2 is more like it!

Next on the list was cleaning up all teh wires tha hangeth all over...

As well as re routing some just not good practices in an engine bay...

Now under the hood matches all the other beautiful work that was done.

So Long....

I did some under coating and misc paint underneath in the area that needed is, but that's about it for underneath. Also mounted the compass and the center comsole.

The tune-up of the engine, plugs, wires, vacuum leaks, timing, carb adjustment, etc... had this K-5 purring like a sewing machine. The owner is SUPER happy and is questioning if he is still going to sell it.

Thanks for tuning in! [P

There will be more to come from .....3 Wheels & A Block...
