I've searched the site for a good answer, but came up with questions. I haven't found a solid answer on Google. I'm converting my 39 Chevy Master Deluxe to 12 volts. I've changed the charging system to a 10SI chevy alternator......63 amps. Can I use the stock ammeter with my conversion? Some folks say yes it's ok, others say no it could overheat and cause a fire. Hopefully someone has done a 12 volt conversion and moved past the ammeter concern.

Thanks

I have not done a conversion, but ammeters are not affected by voltage.

You can "search" that, and it seems to be the rule.:)

I've been working on my 37 GMC and the amp meter was the next on my list to take care of.
I got it done today, with it hooked to 12 volts, it read amps correctly and there was no signs of overheating.
