I have learned that the horizontal line though the spindles in Dr. C's picture is the point where the Ackerman angle line should intersect the inclined kingpin, when the front wheels are pointing straight ahead. If you make your steering geometry correct for straight ahead, then it will steer your wheels properly in to the tight turns, because you used the Ackerman lines. You won't have to measure the Ackerman angle in a sharp turn because you can't.
