Default Model a front cross member

Hey folks I have a question I am building a frame for my model a Tudor. My frame rails are built fame is almost done I'm putting in the front cross member and was wondering? Could I weld it between frame rails or do I need to notch the rails and stick it inside. Would like to weld it between rails but don't know if it would hold up any advice would be great thanks Scott
