Something tells me this will look wayyyyyyy better in the near future. :D
Cool that there is a home for the leftovers. [cl

door

amazing how much a door stuck on can make such a difference in the looks.

still going foreward, now it will slow down for some fitting and trimming.

Looks like it needs about 2-3 foot more wheelbase. You are going to run duals on the rear aren't you? I think you'll need them to carry the weight of the bed and the load.

l believe you are correct, S0, l am adding a tag along type axle, thank you , glad brought it up, it helps motivate me[cl

motor score

picked up a1985 454 stealth GMC motor for $1OO.OO[cl

it is out of a boat, but l can make it work for the truck.

33O HP & 468 FT of torque @44OO RPM according to the manual.

low hours, guy did not use the boat alot.

a few minor change and it will be a ultra cool power plant.

it has the remote oil filter & oil cooler with a huge oil pan, aluminum intake, edlebrock carb and a factory installed MSD distributor.

down side, no place to put a mechanical fuel pump and funky water neck set up.

says Mercury Corp on a tag screwed to the block.

Nice, you will probably have to change out the intake, the thermostat housing and manifold were designed for water circulation through and out the exhaust manifold

Make sure the motor turns the right direction. some boat motors are reverse rotation. If it turns opposite direction. you will need a cam, waterpump, distributor gear , oil pump

thanks kenny, l heard that too from my friend with the boat shop down the road,-------

l have a engine run stand l use to start stuff before l put it in the rigs to check how it runs, when l fire it up on this thing it will tell me if it is right or wrong hand turn.

you could hook up the starter if it came with one and bump it over. A friend put a car stater in his boat once and tried to start it and it sucked water in through the exhaust and locked the motor up. We pulled the plugs and cleared it and it ran with the right starter. We had to change the oil a few times to get the water out of the crank case.

cancel

a boat running two V-8's can cause vibrations, by backward rotating one it cancels the torque reaction to help with this problem.

reverse 454 firing order is 1-2-7-5-6-3-4-8 and turns counter clockwise.

standard 454 firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and turns clockwise.

the intake on mine has the standard firing order on it, but l will still hook up the starter and turn it over just to double check 'couse we all now some could have changed intake over the life of the motor.

Thanks, Skull. Two 454s should push a boat along pretty well. :D

I'll bet checking the part number on the starter would tell the tale. Again, assuming it is the right one, of course.

plan changed but still the same

Craigslist is a savoir and a curse:eek:

l been slowed down working on the car hauler lately because a lack of parts and cash,,,,,

Then this 1984 0verland 30 foot rv is on CL for free so l thought, mmmmmmmm, runs, drives and has all the parts l need, cures parts and cash problem in one fell swoop.

we hammered in and out the boo-boos, ratchet strapped it together enough to be safe even with the gaping holes and Z00M, off we went.

you shoulda seen the looks l got and people takin' pics as l drove the 35 miles down I-5 to get it home, it will go 7O MPH, handles great and with dics brakes on all 4 corners it stops extremely well.

so this going to get stripped and used for the car hauler.

36 thousand miles on the 454 & turbo 4OO.

so l am still putting the marine 454 and 7OOr4 in the carhauler and using the the MH ones for my welders chevy one ton that needs a good running set up as his is dying.

this MH chassis will make life a lot easier since all the brakes, fuel tank and a lot of little things are already there and ready to use.

Nice Score!

Another big block., turbo 400, and chassis with disc brakes around. I'm envious. [dr

Well done with the recovery. That took guts, glad you had no explaining to do. :)
