1931 Chevy 4door into pickup.

Yesterday I started off with modifying a trailer jack to work with my pipe bender as there’s not much room out in the shop. Works pretty good for a $40 jack. Then it was on to bending a piece of tubing for the column support. Got it finished and welded into place. Used the original column support as a mounting plate and used a u-bolt to hold everything tight. Then because the ol’ lady kept complaining about not having anything to keep her feet from sliding, bent another piece of tubing and welded it to the passenger floor board. Today, I made a new gas pedal mount and welded it to the kick panel and I think it will work well. I will have to see how well it works after my new throttle cable comes in. After that, drilled the holes for my headlight swith, the shutoff cable, and attached the turn signal assembly. I think I finally got it to where the cable will kill the engine and still allow the throttle to work properly. Tomorrow, I hope to tackle the cooling system. I’m thinking of just removing the thermostat and seeing if that solves my overheating problems. There’s also a coolant pipe that rubs against the driveshaft just slightly enough so I need to bend it to the side a bit. Then, because I have been noticing a major amount of leakage on my air system, I’m going to go through and make sure all the fittings are tight and leak free. If I can get all that done, she’ll be pretty much ready for the road minus windows and door panels.

Didn’t get any work done yesterday, had to make a drive to look at a new vehicle for the ol’ lady. Will be heading back down there next saturday to pick it up. And seeing as I’m going down there, got a hold of a friend who has a 312 and tri-power for sale so I’m planning on getting that on my way back(it’ll be for the ol’ lady’s rod, I’ll save the lincoln engine for a future project.) Anyhow, removed the valving for the air ride today, turns out every fitting was leaking, even though it wasn’t when I first put it all together. Need to get a few more fittings and some teflon tape tomorrow and I’ll get it all back together.

Love the y- blocks. Had a 312 in my 56 Mercury and putting a 292 Interceptor in the wooden boat project. Post up some pice when you get it.

JB I have had the same problem with the fittings leaking, I started using teflon in a tube and no more leaks.

Got my “new” manifold built, all the lines hooked up, and I’ve got 2 valves that I just cannot get to seal up. I’ll tackle it again tomorrow afternoon and see what happens. I have one spare valve and another nipple that I will put in it’s place and see if it will seal. If that doesn’t work, I may try thread locker and let it set for a day or so while I re-run the wires to the valves.

That’s the type of pipe dope I used the first time. I’m thinking the threads on the one valve are a bit worn.

Got all the leaks on the supply side figured out. As a last ditch effort, I cut the last 1/4” off the nipple and it sealed right up. I’m guessing that either the tolerances on the valve or the nipple were not quite what they should be and that’s what led to the leaks. Also found that one of the valves was loosening up where the top bolts to the bottom so tightened that one and checked torque on the rest. Now it’s holding 120 psi without dropping. New throttle cable came in today so tomorrow I’ll get that installed. No pictures today and probably won’t until I start working on door panels.

Started on the inner door bits that I should have done a long time ago this past week. Got the window frames done up and skinned the insides. I will need to cut out a good portion of the skin and then I will make door panels. Started on the passenger side and I will do the exact same thing to the drivers side.

Passenger side door is mostly finished minus glass and felt. Got the door panel made over the last couple of days. Decided it needed a door pull so I bent a piece of 1-1/2” thin wall and welded it to the panel. Tomorrow I will have to remove the panel again and tighten up the door release cable. Once I get that finished, I will start on the drivers side door.

Started working on the driver’s side today. Hopefully it won’t take as long as the passenger’s side did. No pictures yet as I only got one piece of square tubing welded in.

Still working on the driver’s door. Had to take a few days off to try to catch up ona sleep. Decided that this time around I would do it in three sections instead of a single piece. I’ve got some long hours at work coming up the next few days so I’ll try to finish it up on saturday.

Got the driver’s door finished up the other day but never took pictures. While I was working on it, I ended up breaking the mirror on that side. I tried to weld it back together but what I thought was aluminum turned out to be pot metal. In the end it’s okay because the little round mirrors were almost impossible to see out of. I’m planning on swapping them out for jr. west coast mirrors as I think they’ll go better with this truck. Also noticed that the driver’s side and passengers side doors had some big cracks in them so I welded them up today. I filled up the cooling system after removing the thermostat and now it’s leaking so I’ve got to deal with that now.

As it turns out, jr west coast mirrors are really hard to come by in the correct style. Everything I have come across on google, amazon, and ebay have been 7x16 or thru tube style and way more than I want to spend. I thought I found a few of the old school, 1960s style but they were sold out and discontinued. So I ended up ordering the thru tube and I will make my own hoops from conduit and head mounts from some scrap metal I’ve got laying around.
