My version of a transmission tunnel.

I had the running boards left over from the dump truck (donor truck), and I thought they would make a cool tranny tunnel. I made a blister on my planishing hammer to clear the transmission modulator, welded that on, and put it together with the piece i bent and shrunk to match the running boards. Since I am merely an apprentise in this shop, I had the master fabricator, MR. GUSSETT do the final fitting of the front section of the tunnel. I think he did a pretty good job! Thanks, Tim!!

Rearend update!

We beefed up the rearend, and boaski cut some cool wrenches for linkage for the shocks. I think he did a killer job, and I am very pleased with them...thanks, Todd!! He made me some other parts that I will show you in a later post. The shocks are NOS late 40's Cadillac, LaSalle, Olds that I found on eBay.

How the box will hang.

Someone asked earlier about how the box would be supported...well, the box will be supported by these cool flames that boaski cut from 1/2" plate. There will be tubes welded between the outside vertical upright part of the frame and the front of the flames. I had boaski cut some lighter, thinner identical parts for the outside of the box. We are going to have to trim some material from the front and and the back ends of the flames to fit between the stake pockets. I extended the stake pockets and the bedsides down to be even with the bottom of the cab. I still need to extend the section behind the rear wheels...

And then, and then...

I have mixed feels about a hood. It looks really cool with it, but I also like it without! I think it just needs to be removable....see those cool headers Mr. Gussett welded up? There is more to that then you might think! They do look good. I think they are going to get wrapped....

Here is the shocks I am going to use for the front. They are NOS, Armstrong, English-made. I bought them at the Springfield swap meet, and we came up with the wrench idea to kinda match the back!

The mounts I am using for my taillights were on some foglights that I got out of the local junkyard. The foglights were trashed, but the arms were cool, so I grabbed them!

Thanks...!

Thanks for the compliments, guys! I am grateful to have a master fabricator to point out the obvious and sometimes not-so-obvious, to do what I am not comfortable to do yet, and a great shop to work in! Thanks, Tim!!

Last for now.

Here are the last few shots for now; I will try to post new pictures as more gets done on it. I took these just the other day, and I like both angles....

Looks great, Bill. The transmission tunnel is pretty cool. It ought to be stout enough to withstand a small nuclear explosion in your trans. Project is coming together nicely. I think your truck looks great with or without the hood. Makes for a nice option of being able to change the look of your truck. What kind of intake are your going to run on your BBC?

I wondered how I coulda missed this build so long!? You gotta keep us in the loop! Awesome build. Great idea with the running boards. Really like how the whole thing is shaping up.

BBC

Boaski, the intake I am using is an Edelbrock Performer 2.0. I have an Edelbrock 4 barrel and I am using the old Caddy/Olds air cleaner I found awhile back at a swap meet in Columbus (?) I always wanted one, and finally founda real one for a decent price. I found the NOS Cal Custom valve covers on eBay...never been used...same price or less than a new set. I have a crazy belt system that I can't wait to see all set up...will post pics ASAP.

Sam_Fear, thanks...I think it is coming right along! I will keep you all posted!!
