Picked up a 1954 Chevy 3600, with a 235 and 4 spd. Plans are to sand the body down to bare metal, and leave some patina paint patches.
I'm keeping the original 235, but adding a Fenton dual carb intake, and tube headers. Also doing a 12V conversion, and running an HEI distributor.
Rear end is from a '66 Mustang, a few leafs removed. Drive line is re-built with new u-joints and carrier bearing.
Still got lots of work to do. Brakes, re-do parking brake, fit a gas tank under the bed, repair cab rust, find glass, etc...
Hoping with pulling some leafs, and running lower profile tires to get it down about 4".

Might be able to put the axle on the other side of the spring as well.
4" might be a stretch without a notch in the frame?

Looks like a nice solid project truck!

Ya. I didn't really want to do any major frame work on my first build. I'm looking at about 2" from pulling a couple leafs and another couple with lower profile tires. The 245/75-16 are just way too tall for me.

Nice truck, good shape for it's age. Are you going to let mother nature work striped body? Rust is an earth tone[S
Have fun and keep us in the loop.

Thanks.
I'm keeping the 8 lugs up front, and doing adapters in the back. I have a set of older Chevy rims that I'm going to use.
I'll help mother nature along with the exterior.
My goal is for it to look something like this.

Gonna take some major suspension mods to get down like that one is .

I hope you're just referring to the exterior look and not suspension height, that truck has major suspension mods and is bagged. If you're wanting to lower it as much as you are, I think you'll be better off with a dropped axle than removing enough leaves to drop it 4". Steering and everything will end up better too. Check out stovebolt.com, there is a lot on there about dropping these trucks with a dropped axle.

You prolly could get that low without major $$$ but you'd have to do static, rely solely on junkyard parts, and take a lot of time to fabricate.

Weather finally warmed up a little, so I pulled the truck out and started cleaning up the frame, and re-building the front suspension.
