Now the curiousity is up, what is that parked by your nephews shop? We need pics too.

That's my nephew's '46-47  Dodge. Here's the only other pics I have of it.....

.....He and his Dad will start giving it the Rat treatment this winter [ddd They are planning a chop, drop, SBC and a four speed. I've been telling them they need to check out RRR.....you know, luring them over to the "dark side" :D

Piddled around a little in the garage tonight. Awhile back I laid my glasses on the hood of the Willys while I wiped some sweat and when I turned to pick them up this face was staring at me........

290willbechangingthisfacesoon.jpg

...I thought it was a pretty cool face but still not quite what I wanted, so tonight I started giving it a new face....

......can anyone tell what it is off of from this angle [S

Hint: It's liable to get lonely all by itself in the center of the hood ;)

Too late for that :eek::eek:.....

......I done cut the hole! I'm kinda killing two birds with one stone here. First of all the hood has a bunch of dents and creases in it that don't show in a pic and it keeps caving in about an inch right down the center every time I touch it  I've hammered, dollyed, kicked, thumped, beat you name it and it keeps popping in so I'm going to extend the half round of pipe down the center of hood till it fades at the rear and that should hold the hood flat. The other reason for a hood ornament is to have something to aim it down the road with........cause right now when I sit in my "Cool" position I can't see the hood but I can see the wing on the spear :D

Stay tuned,

Ray

The hood ornament is genius! [cl

Genius! Yep that's me......

:D

Thanks guys for the nods of approval on the '57 Chevy hood spear. I've been working on it........

395ornamentandribLarge.jpg

....I like the looks of it sunken at the nose with the rib fading to the back of the hood

397hoodspearandcenterribLarge.jpg

.....makes a nice "gun sight" to put on the white line too :D

My work schedule usually goes nuts this time of year with folks wanting to get their building projects and repairs done before winter and this year is no exception.....so my garage time is already becoming less and less :( However with any luck I'll make it up once the snow flies.........geesh, I can't believe I just said the 'S' word in September
I still have hopes of getting road legal before the end of the cruising season, need to get the rear brakes on, bear claw latches installed, head/tail/brake lights ........oh, and some glass

It could happen,

Stay tuned,

Ray

I have one of those 20+ years builds

The Willys is looking awsome[cl. My 49 ford f-6 (pu/roadster)from the palisade car show (bonehead post) goes for vin next week. I to hope to get a road trip in before snow. hope your's goes as well. Know you liked the truck I have posted my build under 49 ford f-6 (good thing i don't know what I'm doing or I might mess up)

Thanks Mike, yeah that F-6 of yours is really wild  You might ought to label it an F- .6 though since it's not even as big as an F-1 :D Love your use of the Datsun stuff too..... don't know how far back in my build thread you've been but the "Snake Farm" Willys is sitting on a '76 Datsun frame :D

Well, I've had a crazy busy weekend with lots of chores, obligations and emergency repairs but I still managed to hit a lick or two on the Willys!

A little grinding......

401readyforsomefillerabuseLarge.jpg

....and some Duraglas slinging

402flingingtheduraglasLarge.jpg

...and my hood rib/spear is starting to take shape.......I like to think of it as 'sculpture' but there's a fine line between sculpting and "filler abuse":D

Looked back in yor thread and behold a Datsun frame  Have had mine on the road a couple of times and rides real nice[ddd can't wait for plates[ddd

Looked back in yor thread and behold a Datsun frame

;) Yeah technically my frame is a Chevy Luv, but back when I did the swap my daily driver was a '77 Datsun PU and the frames looked identical.....same wheel base, same front suspension, rear spring setup, etc. etc. In fact after installing the Blazer rear in the Willys, the Luv rear end ended up in the Datsun.

And the ruling is

as stated by hipro "Vehicle resembles a 1949 ford f-6 ftalbed pick-up/street rod:eek:" all most f-.6

and your hood is looking good[cl

Looking good on the hood skewer. The previous owner of the hood for my car(DD, not the rambler) "sculpted" the front of the bulge out of bondo. I beat it out as best I could, but more "sculpting" was in order.

There`s a couple of those spears in my local JY. I wonder what else you could use those for....[ddd

Roamed around the neighborhood some this afternoon and got a little mud under the fenders :D

404tuningmudLarge.jpg

.....This whole time I've been running on "ear timing" or "wherever it'll start" so I finally put a timing light on it. At first I thought someone had stolen my timing mark  Finally found it way over by the fuel pump  Got that reigned in a bit and it runs and starts better and has a nicer rumble to it  Really need to get some back brakes on it though cause now it digs holes if you stop for very long with it in drive[S
My bed has been coming down at times and rubbing the tires to the point that it has pulled a couple bolts out, so I raised it a bit......

405raisedmybedLarge.jpg

....should be good to go now for some light hauling. Ran it up the road to try it out and a couple of my neighbors were walking, stopped and said hi and the husband says "that thing will look good once the body work is finished".....I assume he meant when I get a little Bondo smeared over the Duraglas on my hood spear...

406needalittlebondoLarge.jpg

His wife liked it just the way it is......some get it some don't [ddd:D

That's what I love about this Rat Rod thing,

Ray

Too many chores this evening to work on the Willys :(

But I did however make the Willys do a little work for me :D

....should be good to go now for some light hauling.

Taking out the trash :D

407takingoutthetrashLarge.jpg

...it's a quarter mile to the end of the drive, turned a 1:37.02 going out loaded....shaved almost 40 seconds off on the return trip for a 58.19 :D
I think a good tune will get me in the low 40's
