You notice Florida is missing from most of those lists. We have it great down here...........Y'all come on down !!!!!!! :D:D Being able to drive our cars pretty much 365 days also helps, in fact, I'm taking mine out today and it is December 2nd. :D

Your list is a little off, Sam. Alabama has no inspections that I know of, with the exception of this:

"When a certificate of title is not required, only a registration is issued. The county licensing official or their appointed deputy is required to inspect the vehicle prior to issuing a registration each time there is a change in ownership of the vehicle. An inspection is not required for a registration renewal."
http://www.revenue.alabama.gov/motorvehicle/Registration_FAQ.html

I have never seen this actually happen. As long as the paperwork is in order, they never go outside and check it against the vehicle. Too lazy, I guess.

Titles issued only from 1975 up, and recently changed to not needing one if over 35 years old.

Indiana don't have emissions test. I've never known them to either. Maybe in the early 80s??

Not a State but a Province.
Alberta.
Bill of sale is all thats needed for registering even using the original serial/vin #.
Out of Province safety inspection if it's been out of the system for more than 3 years
There are a few 'Rod friendly' garages that understand the rules regarding 'factory equipped' which makes life easier.

EB- isn't AB one of the only provinces that doesn't require matching numbers too?

That's it. I'm packing up all my loot and heading to your house. You've got room right? RIGHT?!?! I can cook and also do the dishes...:D

For registering all that's needed is a vin # that's not in use.
The inspection is then completed with that #.
My Sedan and F3 both had original serial #'s but non stock engines and the difference in numbers never came into the equation.

Washington has no safety inspections. Emissions only go back to 88, I believe, my zip code in not a required zip for emissions. And according to the state itself it is a hot rod friendly state.
Never had an issue. And you can get a three year provisional title if you have no title. You can license, sell or give away your car. If after that three year period no one comes forward and can prove that they own the car you get a regular title and the car is legally yours.

Montana

Came From Montana To The Left Coast... I've Gotta Say That Montana Is A GREAT State For Hot Rods And Motorcycles and Speed Laws..... [cl

I had mine out yesterday and today, high 60s, great roadster cruising.

I'm sure states like California have the best year round hospitable bike and open top weather but I'd venture to bet we have more bikes per capita than anywhere. Everyone here owns a Harley, just so they can get them out during the Sturgis Rally.

Also, A lot of states not mentioned for emissions do have citys, municipalitys and boroughs with emissions, like Alaska and Texas.

We have some of the best pickin here though, tons of good old tin.

Ohio has emissions testing in the big cities, but not out here in the boonies.
They do, however, require inspection of the VIN to register an out of state vehicle. Can be done at various locations, like I had it done at a local auto dealer for our 75 Dart.

As for driving hot rods around and building them without a lot of hassle, yes Florida is awesome. (Also, no helmet law, which I love) Finding old cars to work on sucks. I think the oldest car in Florida right now is a 1978 Ford LTD 4 door ;)
California rules for old cars. The southwest seems like the best place to find cars in good shape to work with.

I think there are some counties in Florida with inspections and/or emissions testing, but not down here in Lee County. We used to have it and it was a real pain in the neck and you had to take the whole day off of work.

Mississippi

Mississippi does have a safety inspection. It cost $5. They check to make sure your windshield isn't totally cracked up. Thats about it. Everything is pretty simple down here. Just don't act cocky and you can get away with most anything.:D
