Well tonight I made some progress on the tank, by cutting off the excess areas of the tank mounts so that it will fit in the planned space... 3/8 thick mounts take a bit of time to cut through...
Also marked out and drilled pilot holes, need to sort out how to clamp this thing in the drill press at work, the first attempt tonight yielded some insight that the drill press would not go up high enough... so, called it a night, and I'll hopefully get the 1.125" holes put in tomorrow after work... And order the bolts I need from Advance Auto, since they are so cheap through them...

Its going right behind the cab on some risers over the frame, just high enough to saely clear the drive shaft.

Nahh pictured something more looking like a fuel tank only beefier...... Not like something that came off my grill and I layed on it's side. LOL

Will the vessel be exposed DR? I picture it with some superfical touches. Fins, drab paint and some military script... labelled C3H8 or CH3NO2...

I think legally I have to keep it white, but I have to check on that... The other reason is heat, so white is what they paint them.... I was thinking of making it look like an oak barrel, but we will see...
I am not sure if I will cover it, right now I'm planning on just getting it fitted, and then back on the other things holding me up from doing the floor...
Honestly, this thing is huge, 20" in diameter, and 50" long... 60 gallon (50 capacity)...
I did get my bushings, and my bolts, I just need to make some crush sleeves, and sort out how to bolt through the frame mounts...

Yea, I plan on some possible longer distances, so yea I'm happy about having the extra capacity! Mainly so that I don't have to plan around getting fuel at the end of a destination, but rather just filling up when I get back home... There actually are a lot of propane refill stations in the US...
I need to find out if I can even paint it, but we will see, I need to see how it looks mounted on the frame... Still thinking about a cover that flips up out of distressed wood...

Good point... and I should know better. Back in the 80's I worked for a shop doing LPG conversions, inspections, retrofits etc. We were allowed to repaint vessels... white or light gray/grey only! I also spent ten years in the RV business. Again, I should know better.
The first guy I worked for ran a succession of drag cars on propane. (Apparently the world's quickest/fastest for a number of years) Those were "old school" vapor systems and I wonder what he could do with liquid injection.
Anyhow, I like what you're doing DR. Keep up the good work and I'll be watching for a crisp blue flame when the monster ignites...

Does liquid propane develop as much power as gas? I was just wondering.
I used to run some of my service trucks on propane vapor but it was about
15% lower horse power than gas. A lot cheaper back in the day. Which is why I ran it.

Liquid injection gets the same hp/torque ratings, but about 3-5% less fuel economy.
Nice thing about Propane is its is 104 octane rating... should help down the road when a supercharger makes its way on top...
