I started fabbing a hood/tunnel of sorts last night. It will act as a chain guard for the front chain and I will mount a small gas tank, fuel pump and hopefully cram the battery under it.

I got the exhaust sorted out over the weekend. I also got some details sorted out like mounting the coil and CDI and setting up the chain tensioners.

That's a good idea about the spot welds on the shafts. I may use collar clamps instead though so that I can take things back apart if needed. My daughter picked out a shift lever so I got that setup last night.

I made some more progress on the kart. I got the push-pull cable shifter set up. I had it all tucked in nicely down lower where it was totally out of the way but then realized that the throw of the shift lever was totally ridiculous so I had to redo some thing and mount the cable end up much...

Man, it's been way too long since I worked on this kart! My daughter has decided that she's not that into it I guess or at least she doesn't want to help unless there is stuff she can do herself other than helping me with fab. So far, I can't get her to learn to weld... Oh well, hopefully she...

We got the steering column put together with all the flanges, bearings, etc. It came out pretty well I think. We ended up putting a quick release on for the wheel so that it's easier to get in and out of the cart. The little rack and pinion seems to be about take 360 degrees stop to stop so...

We finally put a bit more time into the cart and got the steering column sorted out. I forgot to take a pic with the steering shaft and wheel on but that will come soon. I have to do a bit or machining on it to get it finished up. I also realized I had to get a quick release for the steering...

I keep trying to get her to but she's nervous about it. Hopefully at some point it will happen. She's to the point where she will help hold things in place for tacking which is a step forward from when we started. One step at a time!

We made some more progress over the weekend. The motor mounts and jack shaft mounts are in. I need to cut the jack shaft to length but that can wait. I also wirebrushed the inside of the tub and we cleared it so that it's clean to sit in.

Thanks guys! It’ll have a jack shaft to run the chain next to the tub so that’ll shorten the main chain up quite a bit. It’ll also give us lots of gearing options.

We got the seat done. I still need to wire brush the inside of the tub and either clear it or paint it depending on what the patina looks like.

I decided to shift gears a little to work on something that my girl can do more of herself to keep the motivation up so we started on the seat cushions. I think that having a cool seat in it will also help keep that motivation up. Anyway, here she is making cardboard patterns and tracing them...

Ya, I got them all from BMI Karts along with the rear axle which is keyed the full length so that you can put your sprocket and brake where ever it needs to be. They have a variety or hubs as well so pick your wheels first and then you either pick hubs that match them or hubs that work out the...

We got the steering rack more or less mounted. I need to add some gussets but I think it will work ok. It's been crazy trying to get time to work on it lately with all the end of the year school stuff going on and all the get togethers that seem to happen once the weather is finally nice!
