A happy day, got through the break in process on the new flat tappet cam and lifters. 'Cause it's an FE Ford nobody seems to have another Comp Thumper cam in stock, backordered or made to order, I found a Melling cam on fleabay, 506 lift, adv. 315 duration (224 @ 0.50) similar to the Thumper...

Second Wind - a Packard Gasser

Yes it does - is that OK? It's got a louvered cover on the wheelwell side, should keep debris from going in, there's an intake port on the bottom of the box also. I've found from previous safety inspections that it's required, just a good idea anyways I figure...

1930 Dodge truck, not a Fargo

I've heard Elon's defense for such a fugly flat panel body is that "stainless is very difficult to form into complex shapes". I call BS on that. Case in point, the stainless bodies made in the 1930's..... You can't tell me manufacturing processes haven't advanced since then??

Second Wind - a Packard Gasser

Made up all the interior panels to be upholstered from 1/8" ABS, more expensive than thin wood panels but doesn't crack or shatter when installing clips, etc., won't absorb water or rot. Bunch of smaller pieces go above the doors and front window, door tops.

    Motor Monday... whatcha got?!?

The JAP V8, looks like something from an illustration from a Jules Verne novel, with all the exposed gizmoness, brass, copper, etc., and a wood frame too!

Time to get something done here, got some sound deadner/heat barrier sheets and slapped it on everywhere....

Still waiting for engine parts, decided to redo the back wall upholstery, the car scene was cool but hidden behind the seats and color didn't match the rest of the interior. Also redid the carpet to replace the previous which was just thrown in to get rolling, short loop style, hand stitched the...

Simple but effective Bob, those 8" diffs are getting scarce nowadays.

Tired of engine woes today, received the Johnny Joints to replace the heim joints on the trailing arms and rear track bar. Lotsa fun creeping around underneath installing them :cautious: The heims are positive but noisy and harsh. The Johnny Joints are poly bushed, greaseable and rebuildable -...

Yep, I may even put in the stock springs which are likely lighter still.. Thanks Bob I guess I'm a sucker for punishment... After this experience, I'm going to use a roller cam in the 496 BBC for the Packard Gasser, need to flog off the flat tappet Big Mutha Thumper cam I already bought for...

No, they are the Comp springs that came with the cam, I'll remove the inner dampers for the next attempt - a real PITA but if it works out, it'll be worth it.

Wouldn't you know it, they don't make the DLC coated ones for the Ford FE engines...

Sorry Bob, I don't know where to find one here. Oh yeah, used to do that all the time, used cam, mix up the lifters, so on, no break in run - no problems... That makes sense, also watched a couple other vids. Here's what I think I've learned: I used Lucas 10-30 oil, now realize it did not have...

    Hercules

Roller cam and lifters for an FE Ford is like $2000.00 Canadian, hard to justify it for this engine.... Hard to place just why it failed, did all the steps needed and pre-lubed the engine by driving the oil pump, turning the engine to different positions to get oil everywhere - seems to be a...
