    Threaded inserts

Grouchos thread about the stripped holes made me think of this tip. These threaded inserts install with a gun that looks like a rivet gun. They are great for putting threads in tubing, fiberglass, sheetmetal, etc. MSC Supply sales these and the price is very reasonable. The install gun runs...

    Question everything

I have a rule I go by. That rule is question everything. If I can offer a piece of tech advise, that in my opinion is the best. It would be that. If something you read, see, or hear doesn't make sense to you, question it. It doesn't matter who or what company it comes from. And until they...

    Amp calculation

While discussing alt. on another thread, I thought of a tip alot of car builders overlook when wiring their car. Before selecting an alt. you need to do an amp. calculation on your system. Every electrical component draws a certain amount of amps. You need to total the number of amps used by...

    Tranny fluid change

Here is a simple tip for anyone who has gotten tranny fluid spilled all over them. If you don't have a drain plug on your pan, you can do this. Take all the bolts, except for four on the front corner area of the pan, out. With drain pan in place, simply loosen the remaining four a little at a...

    The 'ole pulse and move

This welding process is NOT for the beginning welder. You should learn the basics and get good at it before ever trying anything advanced. To get a good cosmetic weld that looks like a tig type weld you can do what I call the pulse and move. This is done by hitting the trigger.....move around...

    Welding aluminum

I'm really surprised to find that alot of welders are not aware of the fact that you need to preheat aluminum before welding it. The main reason for this is because of the moisture content of the aluminum. The material is like a sponge. When you preheat the material the moisture is pulled out...

    For the tig welders

A cool little trick for sharpening your tungsten consistently, is to chuck the tungsten in your cordless drill and spin it while sharpening it against the bench grinder. It will give you a "machined" point every time. Remember to sharpen with the grain though. Tracy

    Family project

I posted this on KB. This is a 29 A that my son and myself are going to do together. We are going to do our own thing. Not really rat, not really hot rod. Pie crust tires, magnesium wheels, custom chassis, etc. I'll give more details as the build goes. Tracy

....to a deluxe apartment in the sky...

Hello everyone. Thanks for the invite to "move'in on up"! It looks like everyone here knows each other, but if anyone needs to "get to know", just ask away. I'll do the same. I'll try to figure out what permanent pic to post with my name. Can anyone point me in a direction to a post of how...
