Are grade 5 bolts good enough for my water pump pulleys?

Use grade 8 Sorry guys, I always use grade 8 bolts anymore. The original bolts were heavy enough for GM engineers. No idea what grade they were. I have had some really bad experiences lately with CCB's (Cheap Chinese Bolts). I always try to find American grade 8 bolts and use them. I have had...

    Chevy 307

307 Chevy I put a 307 into a 66 Jeep J2000. It was a great engine, torquey. Had a 2 barrel and dual exhaust run from standard manifolds.

    Trailer wheel

Trailer wheels 5 lug trailer wheels can be used on cars or pickups without any problem as long as they are DOT stamped. Tandem axle trailer wheels get a lot of side stress when making tight turns, you can see the tires really leaning on the wheels. The DOT stamp is what you need to look for. I...

Where am I? I am in Point Washington, about 1/2 way between Panama City and Fort Walton. I know exactly where Baker is, been there several times over the years. I have lived here off and on since 1969, went to Freeport High School. Graduated from OWJC about 25 years ago. I am a Fish head, and...

    6 volt charger?

Jumping 6v w 12v I would use an extra 12 volt battery to jump the LaSalle. I don't like trying to jump a positive ground with a negative. Set an extra battery un a board on the ground, hook pos to pos, neg to neg. should start fine. I have seen some worn out old 6 volt Chevy trucks that had to...

    Small electrical problem... ideas?!?

Bad grounds Many years ago, when cars still had carbs and points and condensors, I worked as a mechanic while I went to school. I can't tell you how many cars I saw that had bad grounds! They used to have a ground cable that went from the back of the engine to the body, then the battery ground...

    Headlight relay.

Relays Vs. Switches All things being equal, I would use heavy switches and wiring and not use relays. just more things to go wrong IMHO. However, if I had some really cool vintage switches I wanted to use, then I would use the switches to operate a relay. All depends on what you want o spend...

    old guages

Gauges Temp gauge normally has 12VDC, and grounds through the temperature sensor (gauge type, not idiot light). Other 2 connections may be light and ground for the bulb. Oil pressure should have 12VDC and ground through the oil pressure sensor (also, gauge type). Generator gauge should be wired...

    48-54 chevy questions

5 and 10 bolt big Chevy Wheels I had several 2 and 2.5 ton Chevs over the years. Most had 5 bolt fronts, 10 bolt rears. Same wheels, just 1/2 the lugs and studs. Brake parts are not hard to find. Most of the old ones will have narrow 20" lock ring wheels, although I have found some of the old 2...

    extending an axle?

Most late model big trucks or semis have air brakes. Why not redrill the hubs and drums? Easier and safer than redrilling wheels. I have redrilled dumptruck front hubs over the years, just be careful with your layout and it should be fine.

Thanks for the welcome guys! Thanks guys (and gals!) for the welcome. I like the looks of the site, and the no flaming rules. Greetings Earth Creatures! I just found this forum, decided to join in. I have been wanting to build a rod for many years, but couldn't see spending 40K on Chrome, billet aluminum, and paint. I really liked the rods my Dad told me about building in the late 40's and early 50's. Then, I saw a...
