welder recepticle to window ac plug

Earthman, you definitely want to add a 20 amp breaker or fuse between the welder receptacle and your 20 amp receptacle for the A/C. If not the # 12 wire and the A/C unit are not being protected properly. Electrical fire waiting to happen. Wire from welding plug to 20 amp breaker or fuse should...

street legal jalopy/vintage fenderless oval race car 1940lSH MOPAR tribute to DAD

Great job Skull. Takes me back to when I was a kid, watching my aunt and uncle racing similar cars at the fairgrounds. Don't even give a thought to what those dipsticks on the Hamb think about it.

    Coil spring install

I never use any type of spring compressor. Just chain the spring to the lower control arm so it doesn't fly out and kill you. Put a floor jack under the control arm, undo the lower ball joint and lower the jack. Do the opposite to put it back in. Never had a problem.

    What is this engine

Well, I was finally able to find out who owned the Caddy engine and the various other interesting pieces laying around in the weeds. Unfortunately, the guy won't sell anything. He has no plans for any of it, just won't part with anything in case he needs it some day. Enough to **** off the pope...

    What is this engine

Wow. Thanks guys. Sorry i did t get back on sooner. Had a water heater blow up. Then had to go for a root canal. You know, life getting in the way. Been a fun few days. I had no idea what this thing was. I saw a pickup cab sticking out of the weeds and went to investigate. And here's this weird...

Do you guys miss your racing days?

I only miss it every day or so. You'd think I guy would get over it after 13 years, but noooo! When I gave it up, it was mostly the money but also my wife pointed out to me that when I'd wreck on Saturday night, I used to be out in the shop, limping around on Sunday working on the car. At the...

Anyone else grow their own food

Good idea on the catfish. I can eat a bunch of them. Building an aquaponic system is probably like building a shop. No matter how big you make it, you always wish it was bigger.

Anyone else grow their own food

I'm planning a much larger system. It should be more forgiving as changes will happen a bit slower. I'm going to use a 270 gallon IBC for the fish tank. Should be able to raise 25 - 30 Tilapia to plate size. Lava filled grow beds for most of the larger plants and a deep water culture for greens...

Anyone else grow their own food

Hey IronRat, just checked out your videos. Nice setup. I'm surprised 4 goldfish can provide enough nutrition for the number of plants you have. They seem to be thriving though.

Anyone else grow their own food

We've tried to grow outside here in the desert, but the abundant wildlife ate it faster than we could plant it. No matter how we tried to protect our plants, they got to them. My next project is to build an attached greenhouse on the south end of the house. Inside we'll set up an aquaponic...

    Interruptions

Just saw my first one of the year on Friday, crossing the dirt road. I stopped the truck to get a closer look at him. It was a 3 1/2 foot Mohave. Particularly dangerous because their venom is a neurotoxin. Apparently it affects your vision and motor skills in a very short time. They say that the...

    What's Your Dogs Name

This guy showed up at our place a couple years ago, around the 4th of July. He was almost dead. You could see every vertebrae on his back. I named him Bones. We figure someone dumped him out here in the desert. He'd live on the atv if we let him. I had to build a bar to tie his harness to so he...

    V8 rat trike....few questions.

Oh, one more thing. I think the guys explanation of trail is off a little. Zero trail wouldn't be the pivot at the neck being in line with the axle, but lining up with the contact patch of the tire. Normally, on a bike, if you draw a line down from the neck to the ground, it will lead the...

    V8 rat trike....few questions.

Hey RR, sounds like a cool project. With an open rear end, only one tire is going to spin. How well that works on a trike, I don't know. Never riden one myself, just bikes. Posi rear ends can be adjusted though by changing springs. You might want to talk to someone who builds rear gears for...

    Gas Stations

HaHa! That's some funny stuff Don. Don't think they'll come after you now, since the station owner is most likely doing oil changes at the big station in the sky. I don't think I could've gotten away with that. The old guy that ran that station watched me like a hawk. We had to go inside to make...

    Gas Stations

Roddingron, thanks for the post. Got me to looking online at old gas station pics. Brings back a lot of memories, since my first job was at the service station. Some of you remember those days. There was a rubber hose running from the pump island to the station and would ring a bell inside when...

    Ratrod camper

Swanee, think I'd stick that cooler right into the bar. That way you don't have to get off the stool to grab a cold one.

    Ratrod camper

Well Swanee, sounds like you're on your way to a ratty bar in your rat camper. I'd look through some of the build threads on here for inspiration. Even though they're cars and trucks, you can still use some of the same styling ideas in your camper. Like maybe using old tools for drawer pulls...
