Are you member at the Alley or VCA?
I am a member on the Alley and VTCOA. I have not been around there much lately.

One evening coming home from the Big Apple(NYC) my 04 threw 2 rods out the block and took out the cam tunnel rendering the block windowed and useless. That nite sucked for sure, there's no sound like a all aluminum 500+ hp engine grenading......:(

Unfortuneately Chipper, if you view the pic with all the shrapnel in the oil pan, the chunk of aluminum- in the very front of pic off to the right is a section of the main oil galley that is under the cam tunnel. Had this section not get damaged- I would have been able to save the multi windowed block.

This block is rendered toast. :( As soon as it was flatbedded back home I tore into it, and had the engine out the next afternoon. I couldnt sleep and just stayed at it until she was out and on the engine stand.

I come to find out from several well known Viper Techs that is is a known problem. When I called a respected Viper Tech- he asked me if it was rod #3. It was 3 and 4 that went out. There is a problem with oil starvation to the #3 rod journal and this tech has seen numerous Vipers with the same problem.

I have been putting together a parts surplus to convert the SRT to Diesel Power.........

It sucks to make payments on a rig you cant drive.

That is some serious carnage. I am sick just looking at it, sorry that happened. I would love to drive one of those

It was a seriously fun truck. I usually could find out who bought their sports car for it's performance- and who bought theirs as a midlife crisis toy / or penile extension. (Those whom backed off when the speedo's went into triple digits.) [ddd

That hurts down to the bone - I feel your pain ! :(

Eventually when this gets paid off- it will undergo a conversion and it will be cummins diesel powered with twice the hp and 3 times the torque than before- with 4 less cylinders and a whole bunch of smoke LOL [cl

viper

good luck on your project. i went diesel in 97 and hope i never have to go back. been playing with 82 dodge 1/2 ton with 97 cummins in it for about 7 years. i dont have the funds to really make it run. it did wake up the troops in my small town though.:D
