Passed my first wrong way freeway driver this week. Sure happened quick. Only 2 lanes each direction on I5 here, speed differential of about 120mph. Glad I kept to the right. The group of cars behind me were not so fortunate. :(

Glad you are safe. I've had that happen a couple of times and it's all ways a freak out for somebody.

We had the same thing happen back in December. A fellow I know from town who has come out to repair my furnace, lost his wife and mother in law, his 6 month old son in a car seat in the back of the car survived, thank God.

That's a horrible loss Dozer. I was driving a subcompact. Unlikely That I would have survived a head on with a midsize sedan.

My wrong way driver day was not over. The freeway deal happened at noon on Thursday, no rain, good visibility. At 7pm that night, I was driving through town...3 lanes all one way the same direction. As I headed through town, I was thinking I should stay in the center lane, likely the safest to avoid another wrong way.

Yep. Guy passed me on my left going the wrong way. So I'm considering switching back to a full size truck.

That a sad story dozzer!!!

Glad your still with us burgerman!!

I had a lady in my lane while I was bout 6 years ago. The road had a big paved shoulder so i drove off as far and as quick as i could. She still hit me, not head on but it tore the whole rear axle out from under my dodge. Glad i wasnt in a small car!

Another sad story...

A friend of mine left "our" race track in the black of a Sunday night, stone cold sober. He inadvertently turned short, pointed his truck, trailer and race car down the wrong side of the divided highway... some 30 miles later, he collided head on with a small car. The "opposing" driver was killed and my friend spent 5 years in prison for his error.

It was an honest mistake. I'm very familiar with the junction and I've turned the same corner 200 times in daylight. I've also tried to make the same mistake (twice) in the dark, but thankfully, had somebody riding shotgun both times to correct me... at any rate, it could easily have been me in prison...

I'm glad you lived to tell the story, Burgerman!

In broad daylight, I can't imagine the legal defense... "I was smoking a pipe with a needle in my arm, your honor."

.

Thanks guys, glad to be here. I like your Dodge truck LB. Did you fix it?
That prison story is sad Doc. Glad you had a shotgun rider when needed. We have all made mistakes. Let's all be vigilant out there on the road.

Glad to hear you OK. I almost did it while on vacation in Tennessee on a motorcycle. Road I wanted was next to the off ramp. Luckily my buddies are real loudmouths.

I did it myself once, about 2:00 AM in Minneapolis. Had been at a Larry Norman concert with some friends, and we had stopped for something to eat. I was about to pull on through to where I thought I was supposed to go (which was actually the correct lane), but my friends, fooled by having crossed a service road, said "This is your lane." There was no traffic, so I didn't realize they were wrong. I had just gone a few hundred feet when I saw headlights heading toward me. I pulled off to my right (toward the center divider) & stopped. It was a cop, and he really ran me over the coals. Made me walk the line & all, accused me of having helped some juvenile delinquents escape from a detention center, and told me to Shut Up when he said my car was a so-and-so make, just like the one used in the escape, and I said, "No, my car is a Chrysler." (Not the make he mentioned.) There really was no traffic to speak of - I can't say if more than a few cars came past there while they were harassing me. "They" because the first one called in a second car. Finally, after realizing there was nothing else they could hang on me, they escorted me back those few hundred feet, between the two squad cars, while not a single car passed. (It was around 1977, and I had a huge afro - that's what I figure the extra attention was about.)
