Saturday at the dragstrip

E-m man, I don't have an affection for Corvettes. But the style of those two years is just about perfect for me. I drove a '58 and a '59 during college. Belonged to roommates. Not comfortable at all. Hard to pick up girls, eh?

Today was free drag racing sponsored by the Minnesota Street rod Assn. Unfortunately, it was rained out until late in the afternoon. I went home but the dragster stayed. See report elsewhere. Since it was misty, most of the drag cars stayed in their boxes. Not many open trailers anymore.

I took a few pics of interesting cars that showed up.

I installed one of those 57 Buick grilles in a 57 Chevy for a customer 4 or 5 years ago. It was quite the nail biter cutting that pot metal to fit around the dagmars.

The long roof belongs to a long time friend. I voted for it for "Custom of the Year".

Boy oh boy, what a perfect night. Mid 80's today. Windy but sunny. Some newbies showed up.
I don't know any of the guys that brought the first three. The Willys pick up belongs to Del who also has the blue Willys coupe that's been pictured before. Wow, two Willys, one owner. Ain't fair. The fifty five was near perfect.

But wait, there's more. The Plymouth runs 11's. Nice guy too. Retired shop teacher. Nothing on the AMC. Same goes for the super straight '40. The rambler long roof is so new you could eat off of it. Big block is all Brodix. This car is as well built as possible. No cage in it though.

Friday at Rock Falls Raceway

The 2021 edition of the Fall Out nostalgia drag race started today. We were there with the dragster. So were hundreds of other racers. Here's a few pics. Dave ran a 11.29 which is a record for the dragster.

Another half dozen. One named after the Doc. I really like the Junior Fueler. Just the right length.

Day Two

I'm glad you are liking the pics, guys. Here's some from today. First we have a long comp car that runs in the mid 7's followed by a shortie altered with a cross ram intake. I like the 500 inch Olds in this later Willys. A couple shots of a 292 Chevy 6 powered T bucket. And a great '34 from th car show. There was a swap meet too.

Second installment. A few more from the show. In my opinion, '34 Ford roadsters have almost perfect lines. There were 5 nitro dragsters and one funny car that lit the candles for a cackle fest. My ears are still ringing but my eyes finally quit watering.

Some 'mo. '34 Coupe ain't bad. '37 in red for Doc. Kind partial for Anglias. Here's Dave ready to launch with the trans brake. I tightened the valve lash and it improved .o6 sec. Lastly, my buddy Jerry pretending he owns the '34.
