This Big John Mazmanian Austin was nicknamed the "Football" because of the radical chop. It was promptly outlawed by the NHRA and went on to compete in match races. It was recently restored.

Good call Gastrick. The men behind the machines.......

Thanks. Its hard to find pics of them. Tons of pics of the cars, but not a lot of them. I don't think they were totally accepted in the culture at the time due to their race.

This Agitator Willys pick-up was campainged by Paul Day before he ran the 33Coupe that I posted earlier. This truck was destroyed in a crash. The salvaged Olds rear from it sat on our patio for years after the crash.

One of the most famous racing teams of the 60s was the S & S Racing team from Virginia. The team was owned by Chuck Stolze, the owner of S & S Parts Co. In 1964 the five team drivers - ( K.S. Pittman A/GS, Gene Altizer A/G, Fred Bear B/G, Pork Zartman C/G, Dave Hales D/G ) held the Eastern Drag News records in all five classes!

Another big name that I don't think I've seen here yet is "Ohio" George Montgomery. He was quite an innovative racer.

His Malco Mustang was the beginning of the end for the gassers that we all knew and loved

since im not from the states and dont really know the drag racing kulture...can some1 explain me what a definition of a gasser is? just wondering...
;)

I know we are getting a few duplicates, but I wonder what the car count is here?

I gotta say, that some of you guys really know your stuff. When I was young and at the drag strip, I was too young, and only liked the wheelies and the smoke. Classification was something I did not care about.
I also learned alot from HOTROD magazine, but classification?, no.
When someone answers Fiki's question, I would like to know the more popular classes. I know A/fx and a few more but not all of them.
