I think the best argument for making the bed a bolt on is the frame design. There is bound to be some flexing going on since that frame was meant to be bolted to the Caddy lump of a body - if you weld the much less rigid box to it, there's a good chance for cracks to show up. Bolt on mounts should give it a some ability to move around a bit and hopefully give it a less stress free life....

Caddy frame is way stiffer than a pickup frame from that era. But the beds were bolted on solid, no body mount pucks. Probably not going to get enough miles really need to worry about it.

Today is my first day off of 5.
Got new tires delivered this week. My wife asked if I was going to put them in the garage. I said "they will live the rest of their life outside, so a couple of more days will be fine" I'll probably wait until later in the week to get them on my rims. I also got 2" wheel spacers. The Eldorado has some funky rear drums. Spacers are the only way to get rims on without using original wheels which are ugly as ****.
Probably not doing much today, since I have to help a buddy work on his 06 Dodge.

I did get some work on Stumpy tonight, but not much worth taking pictures. A couple of bed side braces on the front of the bed. Tough to measure to anything on floppy 68+ Year old worn out bed sides. I gotta remember to not let 1/4" off bug me and keep on plugging away. No one will ever see the 1/4" off anywhere...

I got the back end of the bed widened out. Added 9 3/4". A couple of pics of my lack of progress, but it sure took a lot of time to do it.
And this morning I have extra wide white walls.

Hey, it's progress. That's the work I enjoy. Seems like most of the country is having crappy weather.

So I got the front of the flat bed framework done. That was wayore time consuming than it should have been. But it let's me get the gas tank mounts figured out. I also welded the rear of the bed to the frame of the car. The bed sides are finally done..[cl [cl

They have taken way longer than they should have.

Not sure if it was clear before but now it should be, the top framework in the pics will be covered in old wood. Then it will slope down at the humps to the bottom of the bed. I will have enough bed space for a cooler, small BBQ grill and a couple of chairs.

No luck finding a Fleetside tailgate I like so as of now it looks like I'm making one out of two I have.

Slowly moving along on Stumpy.
The grill has been hanging off of ratchet straps for like a year now. So we moved the straps around got it centered better. Then while deciding how to mount it, realized that the original grill mounts to the frame/bumper not the body. So we hung the bumper off of straps to get it started. Everything is low...
I figured now is a good time to put it up on the lift it is next to. So I moved to the gas tank. Its installed except one bolt on the filler neck. I dumped 5 gallons from a can it it pretty darn fast. Then fixed a fuel leak by the fuel pump after cranking on it for a bit.
I go back to work on night shifts tonight so not much new happening until next days off.
