Hi,
please indulge me on this, even if it seems very basic:
If i need timing to be 10 degrees initial, and total advance to be 24°, the 10° portion is done 10° btdc, followed by allowing the distributor to mechanically advance 14°to more, equaling my total of 24°. Yes? Correct?
Thanks. Sometimes i think im thick headed

Yes
The timing is set at engine idle with the distributor (vacuum lines unhooked from it)
The vacuum is then hooked up to the distributor and the engine rpm is run up to around 2500 to 3000 and then the total timing is checked.
Total timing is the initial, vacuum and centrifugal added together.
Most of the time the vacuum will only add 3 to 4 degrees of timing and the centrifugal part will add another 10 to 15 degrees of timing.
You replace the centrifugal components to get more total timing.

Thank-you.
i thought i was doing something wrong. I just bought some advance stop bushings for an msd distributor, and i didnt think i had it correct.
