OK, the boss says he loves midgets, the older the better, right Tripper ?
We have it in writing... http://www.ratrodsrule.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6515
Here are some old black and white photos followed by some colored ones...

What these guys built using modified frame rails and what ever engine -
Flatheads, v-twins, Crosley 4 cyl., etc amazes me, I love the creativity.
If this interests anyone, there are lots more..... ‘22

Great pics, 22 !!!! Am real partial to the midgets, especially the 30's & 40's. My grandfather built midgets out of Ohio in that time frame. Wish I had some pics of his creations.

460 ELTO motor...

One thing I forgot to point out about the car below and the Yellow midget that follows,
is the power plant used, a 460 ELTO (Evinrude Light Twin Outboard)

Ralph Evinrude built bilge pumps for ships during WW2.
They were powered by an Evinrude Outboard Motor power head.
After the war, they were available surplus and many were used in Midget racing.
This engine is a 4 cyl. opposed, 60 cubic inches, made 50 hp. stock, and obviously
more when modified for racing use.
They did run in competition and were considered serious racers

Here is the 460 ELTO in the midget, and as used for an outboard motor.
Notice the engine in the second photo has 2 plug per cylinder heads.
I don't know why it was referred to as a light twin when it had 4 cyl.
Maybe 2 twins combined for a 4 cyl  '22
