little covid lockdown project.

Last year I purchased an Eckold hand held pneumatic planishing hammer.
It`s time to build a frame for it... so, instead of building a whole new frame, I purchased this old tapping machine last week.

It has a nice heavy base and 6" cast column. The top of the machine can roll up & down about 5" which enables me to get my panels in even with big flanges and such.

I tore the whole thing down and cut plates for the upper arm which will hold the hammer later on. I`ll get some pics tomorrow. [P

My machinist friend does all milling and turning for this thing. The spindle housing will get a solid 2" shaft which will hold the main bolts for the upper arm. On the other end a quick release clamp will hold the hammer.
Got a start... :)

We made a start on some machine work today.
I will use the old table to store dies and other stuff and the lower arm will be bolted to the other side of it. We cut the radius of the cast part in a piece of 3.5x3.5" bar to which the lower arm will be welded and the whole thing bolted to the cast table/ bushing.
Clamp for the Eckold is tacked to the upper arm.

got most work done. A 10 pcs set of lower dies is being made and I will make some sort of non rattle thingy to store them on the old machine table which is now on the backside of the column.
One other thing that still needs to be made is the extension for the lower dies so I can drop the lower arm 20" or so.

I ordered the air foot switch so I hope I can make some noise this week...or next.

Hardened the lower dies and build this rattle free storage on the old drill table.
Only thing I`m still waiting for is the extension for the lower dies.
I did have a problem to solve. While hammering the lower arm slowly dropped.
I didn`t expect that to happen with that big clamp holding it...but it did. Got it fixed with a spring loaded pin right through.
Anyone have a good name for this thing? looks like a nice lettering project :)
