New Beetle Rod from AFTERMATH

The motor is not mounted to flexible mounts but rather solid mounted to the frame like a drag car. If it torques enough to affect belt alignment or tension we'll probably have bigger problems on our hands. I've used this design in the past and never experienced any issues. We'll see...

    New Beetle Rod from AFTERMATH

I'm trying to find some really tight spiral wrap to cover up the red wires, yes. I don't like them either. Hind sight being 20/20, I should have used all black wiring. My options around here are limited and the car ships in a few days. I don't want to order some just to have it arrive as the...

Just a few more... [/IMG] It's pretty busy back here but it's all functional. Ok, so the license plate holder is a little violent and way over built I had the spike and was dieing to use it. [/IMG] Yes, there is a sub in there. I thought that putting a sub into what is...

    New Beetle Rod from AFTERMATH

The car is just about finished with the exception of a windshield and a few little tweaks. I hate to complain about horrible weather when most of you guys are totally buried in snow but it has been raining constantly here and we haven't been able to drive it yet. A few updates... New Beetle Rod from AFTERMATH

I've received a few messages requesting updates. The car is still being built but its at the stage where pictures online don't really do any good. It'll be done within a week or two and I'll post finished pics for those that are interested. Thanks.

Go get it. You can't beat the power to weight ratio. Finished up the steering shaft today and started final assembly with the actual engine. And then Christmas kills all forward progress....

Your right. There will be some bump steer for sure but I anticipate that it really wont come into play until somewhere around the end of a 4.5" suspension stroke. I think we'll be way over driving the car when it becomes a factor. I'll find out and let you know :D

I'm using S-10 spindles and ball joints with a mustang II rack. The a-arms are totally custom. Some people will baulk at the s-10 spindle set up but they are strong, infinitely upgradeable and came on fleet vehicles which means parts will be available and cheap forever. Believe it or not my...

    New Beetle Rod from AFTERMATH

Thanks man I appreciate it. Started working of the fire wall today and all of the last little bits of fab before we can put the real engine in and start final assembly. Speedway motors finally shipped the 7* reamer I needed to modify the spindles to accept the Mustang II rack. The frame tubes...

    48 Chevy Fleetline

I would like to second that. This body style is as cool as it gets and your slammed stance is awesome. Keep up the good work.

That is exactly the idea. It's basically a 2000 pound 350hp go kart that you can make street legal. Made some progress on the fuel tank today. Coupled two pony kegs together and made a mount for the nitrous bottle on top. The good 'ole tape measure told me all was well in the clearance...

    New Beetle Rod from AFTERMATH

Thanks man I appreciate it. Made a little more progress today. Cut out and rebuilt the seat so that a grown man can sit comfortably in them. I hate fiberglass. Finished up the sway bar. We'll have to see if the 1/4" plate I used is strong enough to be a sway bar mount. I think it may flex...

I think that VW should have made them this way. Would have saved me a bunch of work.

Ya I started it there but the KB site doesn't allow pictures that are big enough to show any detail. It was driving me nuts. This rear end is now equipped with Lincoln locker and widened a touch with spacers.

This is the actual engine that's going in the car. I know that pretty and polished isn't exactly the rat rod standard but it was the only request of it's owner. Anyway, quick tear down and inspection, new cam for some lope, bearings, gaskets, and a dose of pretty. [/IMG] [/IMG]...

    New Beetle Rod from AFTERMATH

Built a steering wheel out of left over huge nuts (insert joke here), deleted the factory beetle dash panel and replaced it with a flat panel for gauges. Started building the side pipe style exhaust and put a little color to it. Moving right along. [/IMG] [/IMG] This shot give...

A few more pics of the chop. It looks pretty tough but it's really not that hard and if you do mess it up it's just a bug (no offense) and they are a dime a dozen. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] The bummer part of the chop, like lots of other cars, is that the whole...

    New Beetle Rod from AFTERMATH

Got the rear end in there where it needs to be. The 10 bolt is located about 6" back from the factory beetle's rear axle line. Started working on front suspension and go this thing to the point where it will roll. The level of motivation always goes up when you can sit in it and make vroom...

Seems like it's going faster than it is cause I'm trying to catch you guys up. One the chop was roughed in I started on the chassis. Main spars are 2x3 square tubing and the rest is DOM of various sizes. [/IMG] [/IMG] Sorry guys, the turbos aren't staying. They just happened to...

Found another body and got right to work on the chop. This one will be a little lower and I'm going to delete the B-pillar for that "floating roof" look. [/IMG] [/IMG] Its not totally finished in this shot but you get the idea. [/IMG]
