    Model A frame front suspension.

The Unisteer rack is supposed to take the place of a Vega setup. I started from scratch with a stock 32 heavy front axle and I built my own frame. I set the cross member at 7 degrees and cut and reweleded the split wishbones. This was to keep the rear mounting point high enough to mount them in...

    Model A frame front suspension.

From my understanding you can't run a tube axle with split bones. there isn't enough twist in the tube like in an I-beam. the bones tend to break. Hair pins and 4 link seam to work because they flex. I used a Unisteer rack on mine but but neither build have made it to the road yet.

I forgot to mention. I'm using a piece of 1/4 copper plate as a backer on the underside of the roof and I'm only using .035 filler wire. the backer helps withe the thin spots of the original roof material it is real thin and for filling holes

Thanks Dutch. I’m a long way from perfect. I will try that on the other half of the roof. I still have to spend some time on the rear joint on the drivers side first. I had mig welded that and it is taking some time to fix it. The welds are so much easier to hammer than mig.

Do you guys crave shop time?

Like most of you guys I'm a garage rat. My shop is a second income source. when I was married I would go in the shop before I would go in the house. The same thing happens in the summer months , in cold weather I stop at the house to turn the heat on and them out to the garage. It is a place to...

Newest addition to the welder fleet. I’m starting to get the hang of it but welding 18 gauge into the roof. I’ve been practicing for 2 weeks. Very slowly getting better.

Just bought a truck for $ 200 dollars

Since we're tellin stories. A few years ago when I was still married. A friend gave me her broken down pickup. Late model chevy 1500 4x4 with a rear end that occasionally had 1 rear wheel lock up. My thought was to drive it the three or so miles home right after it snowed so the tires could...

I wear prescription glasses and have for 20 years. They are progressive lenses and are the transitions type that darken in sunlight. They also darken while I’m welding. I should probably get a set of readers and try them.

I think one of my problems with trying to tig welding is that I can’t see well enough. I can’t seam to see a reflection in the puddle to add filler to. I am trying to mig in the panel again and only work small amounts at a time. I will try to correct the shrinkage as I go.

You may want to put that one away for later. It’ not often you find one that nice.

    1937 Ford Pickup

Ya I know all the concepts. I've used copper backers supported on jacks that set on saw horses across the width of the roof. I have what looks like a ladder that is arched to the contour of the roof with each ladder rung with a little bit of an arch to match the crown and that is all held in...

Thanks Dozer. I will try again. I may try tig welding it this time. I'm just not very good at tig.
