    "Don't Know" Build start

I managed time to get the new door latches installed along with the rubber guides. The doors really close now. (and open) I've got to round up some help to try the windshield. It's been about twenty years since I did one but the I'm sure the technique will come back to me when I get started...

    "Don't Know" Build start

It's been a while but I'm still here. I've been working a pretty good demo job and it's not so easy for a not so young guy. But, it pays good. I'm just tired. I've been starting the 429 every other week and letting it warm up. I ordered the windshield rubber and door latch parts and got them...

Did I pick the right cam ?

CompCams has a series called the Thumper. It has mild to moderate specs but has the idle of a much bigger cam. I was thinking about one for my 429 but, they didn't make one at the time. The one I got is way too much cam for the Ghia but, I like the rough, not lopey, idle. I've got enough engine...

    A little stuck

I have a drunk friend up in the hills of Virginia. He says you just hook the winch to the rear bumper and pull the rear out first. (sounds like good reasoning. To a drunk, anyway)

    gasoline prices!

It's 3.19 at both stations, in this little town. Ten miles down the road, in the real world, it's 2.95 all over. They know it's not worth the trip for 24 cents a gallon. Smart retailers.

    Early Falcon rear end

I finally made it out to pick up the rear and sadly discovered it is beyond the use stage. Pulled it up out of the dirt and the rust flakes were about a quarter inch thick. I chipped on it a bit and the metal on the housing bent after the big flakes were gone. Nothing left. And the brake backing...

In Sweden, about 1000 old cars

http://autos.yahoo.com/photos/bastnas-car-graveyard-the-forgotten-vehicles-from-world-war-ii-and-beyond-1391545959-slideshow/ There might be a few worth a couple of bucks.

    Customizations you don't understand

I agree with you Dr.Crank. A diesel belongs in a truck that is actually doing work. There's a whole lot of people that get themselves a double cab dually diesel and never even have a trailer hitch put on it. And never haul anything in the bed because it might get scratched up. Then gripe about...

    Baby it's cold outside

This is about right for here.

    Baby it's cold outside

It started out at 42 at five this morning. Now at 35. The whole area was expecting heavy ice, sleet and snow. Then, overnight it all changed to just a little, to the north of Houston. But, I'm still glad I played hookie from work. The wind is a killer.

    Early Falcon rear end

Thanks Don. Now all to do is decide whether to pull the Courier rear out now or wait for it to break on me. I guess I can save a headache and some driveshaft money by doing it now before I get the shaft finished for the Courier. Oh boy. There's another six months at my rate of progress. Thanks...

    Early Falcon rear end

I've been given an early v-8 Falcon rear. It's a five lug. I'm guessing this would be a healthier rear for my project than the 80s Courier. Are gear sets still available and what would the technical term be for this? An 8", or what? I am clueless on rear ends. Thanks.(I can get a pic when the...

    66 Nickey Chevelle

Yes sir!! That's a real hot rod. No radio/heater, ps/pb. That would be a blast to drive. You did good. Thanks for sharing.

    Beatle Rat

That's looking good. Some 4" side pipes would hide the frame, if you're willing to make that change from the headers you've got. Just a thought. Good luck with it and keep us posted.

    Nothin' special but it works.

    Baby it's cold outside

It's 32 here. The darn wind is what makes my old house so cold. It was built in '53 with what they call balloon walls. The bottom of the walls are open to underneath the house. It's great in warmer weather for keeping the heat out but, it don't work too well in the cold.

engine debate..what do you like n why???

I like the 500. Sure, there's not the aftermarket parts like the 440 but, if you're just cruisin', who needs all the extras? And there's not a lot of rods running around with a Caddy. I had a 73 ElDorado with a 500 that I had plans of using the whole power train in the back of a Datson pickup...

What do you do for a living?

I did five in the Navy (Engineman) right after high school. Then mostly tractor and auto repair for a few years. Opened my own shop in a small east Texas town and went broke from not getting paid "on the third". Got into the chemical/petroleum plant work as a boilermaker, in the mid 80's. Been...

A lesson to us all....or me anyway.

Sorry about the loss of your bud, BillM. I know the feeling very well. That's exactly what my Dad is going thru right now. He's 90 and is slowing down more every day. I can get him on some old stories that make my stuff look small. But, like your Dad, all his old running buddies are gone and...

    Why Zombie Cats Rule

That's cool. I had a real sweet three legged cat until a year ago or so when my @@@@@ of a neighbor hauled her off. He's real lucky he's over 65.
