    Ground clearance and protection

See that's what I am afraid of. I was thinking of putting some kind of shield on the oil pan, but thought maybe a cross bar of some kind would be better. Bob, how low was your car?

    Ground clearance and protection

I'm looking for suggestions and opinions. I had set my car up to have about 5-6" of ground clearance, but when I got it on the ground it settles to around 4 1/2-5". Now the question is, especially for the really low vehicles, do you use any kind of protection? I mean like a skid plate or like a...

    38 Plymouth coupe

Thanks guys. It took a really long time to decide on wheels and tires. I really had wanted to go with 10" wheels and tires in the rear and American Racing wheels made a 10" wheel that were close to these, but are twice as expensive. I also was thinking of putting 8" wheel and tires in the front...

Thanks. Here are a few more after I rolled it out of the garage to get a better look at it.

So I mounted the wheels and tires and finally let the car down to see how it sits. I am very HAPPY with the way it sits/ looks. Just like I hoped. Now on to more bodywork.

I also got the wheels and tires after a lot of indecision.

    38 Plymouth coupe

I've been picking away at this for the last couple of weeks. Work schedule had changed, not giving me any time to do much. Now it has changed again, giving me time during the week to work/play with my toys again. So after getting the steering sorted out, I got the nose fitted on and made...

    38 Plymouth coupe

Finally got some time today to work on the coupe. I decided to make a new steering arm. I happen to have an extra set of the flat arms. I took one set and made one arm out of the two.

    Headers

Nice! Thanks for the info. Love the cars too.

    Headers

Love those headers. That's what I wanted to run but have interference issues. I didn't think the turnouts would help that much. Maybe the Hi-boy headers would work with the turnouts. On another note, don't those inserts create a lot of backpressure? Seems you would want more flow than that.

So here are a few pictures of how and where I put the steering box in. Now I just need to pick some steering shaft components to connect everything. New pitman arm is on the way. I'll have to see how much clearance there will be for it.

    Headers

I have seen exhausts run that way and maybe I'm being a little hard headed, but I was going for a look. I was originally going to run the sprint style headers with an extension back to about 3/4 of the door or more. Noise is noise and can be controlled to an extent, but I was more concerned...

    Headers

I have a question to the guys that have short headers, those that end at the cowl. Do you get a lot of exhaust in the car as you are driving down the road? I was going to use sprint style headers on my build, but the front tires will hit the front tube of the headers. I like the look of lake...

    38 Plymouth coupe

So after a long turkey coma and a lot thinking and rethinking, I finally found a way to make the cross steer work. I have to box the front frame horn and notch the crossmember for the steering shaft. Then the pitman arm should fit under the crossmember and the cross steering should work. I...

    38 Plymouth coupe

I'm not sure if I can get a pic that would show the problem. It really is just a matter of space. I have Vega box and a Land Cruiser box. The only way to mount them and work would be upside down, and then they would hang down too low. Anyway I'm thinking a cowl steer set up would look right at...

    38 Plymouth coupe

That's funny! That is exactly what I did and had to explain to my wife that I was not losing it. I usually kick problems around before I execute them, but this had really got to me. Now the new issue with the steering has me a little stumped. I know what I want to do just not how to get there. A...

    38 Plymouth coupe

Sorry to everyone that would have liked me to keep this all Mopar, but that is a Chevy engine in there. That is what started this build. Had the engine, needed something to put it in.

So does this happen to anyone else? Mo matter how much I plan and measure everything out, something doesn't work out. I fit the engine any trans in and come to find out there isn't enough room for the steering linkage. Had to put the headers on to see what it was going to look like. Anyway...

    38 Plymouth coupe

This is the point I have gotten the most grief about. To get the look I was after, I shortened the rear of the body and moved the wheel wheels forward 5in. This allowed the body to come back and give me the look of a true modified. I still have some work to do with the wheel wells though. I'm...

Yes, grille and surround. Other than the dash, that is the only other part I got with the body and frame.
