    thoughts on roadster build??

They're out there....................... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/4264453731.html Here's another one in your area................. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/4253134074.html Keep in mind, stated prices are only asking prices. You can usually negotiate a decent deal...

    Best rust removal

Worked for me! There was virtually no smell and it attracted no critters, even when I removed the back of the box to let it all drain out! Probably because I kept the box covered and the mixture was diluted 7:1. Rust removal......the miracle of molasses

    Opinions needed Tire Sizes

Thanks for the info! I did a millimeters to inches conversion and came up with 295mm = 11.6 inches. 1/2" shouldn't matter much. Discount Tire Direct on Ebay has 295/50R15 Cooper's and Hankook's in the $150 range. Free shipping too! I also noticed some off brand name tires w/cosmetic blems...

    Opinions needed Tire Sizes

Don't mean to hijack, but I too need some cheap fat meats! The N50/15's I have now are 30 years old with no tread wear but they're dry rotted. They measure 27" overall height and 12" wide tread. Not looking forward to spending $500 on a pair of skins! 295/50's would probably do. Could you...

Leaf Springs on an A frame ?

Here's a dirt cheap alternative with a much better ride. This is under my '27 roadster. 8" rear outta a Maverick (swapmeet item). The rest was purchased at Pick-N-Pull. Coilovers from an '88 Subaru wagon ($9 each), trailing arms from a '99 Land Rover Discovery ($33 pair) and a trailing arm...

4.5 BP Hubs For 37-48 Spindles

Couple of viable options here. First, open the phone book and call every machine shop in the area (you may have to drive a little ways to get it done), someone should be able to drill them. There are a couple of shops that'll drill 'em up here in the Bay Area. Second, Ebay has tons of...

1948 ford f1 field find rat rod project

Looks good! Very complete! The million dollar question is............what's your budget? I'll hazard a guess and say you're probably in your early twenties with not a lot of disposable income and this very well could be your first rod (rat or otherwise). If that's the case I'd say keep it...

Looking for a drill press, suggestions?

I picked up a used 1950's Craftsman 150 floor model off of CL for $150 and did a light restoration on it. I'm very pleased with it and it works great! I work mostly with metal so I need slower speeds than it offered. I made my own low speed conversion for next to nothing. It was very...

    Vern Tardel's yard sale...................WOW!

No, not at all. Vern is in his 70's and he just decided it's time to give it up. He sees people his age starting to break down physically. He says they always talk about what they want to do but aren't able to do it because of age. He's in great physical shape and wants to go experience life...

    Vern Tardel's yard sale...................WOW!

The yellow 5-window coupe went for $1K. Asking $3500 for the Model A tudor. I'm sure he'll take less! The shop was off limits but he let me in to wander around. Paradise!! Yeah, baby! Even better! Maybe I'll go back next weekend and take some more pics!

    Vern Tardel's yard sale...................WOW!

Need that elusive pulley or carbureutor? Doors anyone? How about a hood? What a smile! Sold..........to someone else, darn! $400 and it's a roller! He'll probably give it to me for $300. I can use the cowl. Sell the doors and Model A frame and make my money back! Highly...

    Vern Tardel's yard sale...................WOW!

I just got back and I'm completely overwhelmed! The legendary Vern Tardel is liquidating his 50+ year collection for the next 3 Saturdays! Whatever is left over goes to the scrapper (he's already contracted with them)! 95% of his stuff ranges from the teens to the '60s. The prices are...

    budget frame build

OK.........I built the frame on this. It's actually a custom king sized bed frame that someone gave to me. Made a couple of mods and bingo........frame table! The frames made outta 2" x 3"x .125 wall rectangular tubing. The X portion is 2" square tubing and I used some 2-5/8" pipe that we...

    budget frame build

Build your own from scratch. You'll need a good 220V MIG but you can design it the way you want to and build it for cheap. This was my first frame build and it cost me about $250 in steel. Wasn't difficult at all.

    HF Porta Band

I clamped mine with a 3-1/2" Craftsman vise that I picked up for $2 at a garage sale. I've cut tons of steel from 18ga sheetmetal to 5/16" plate and it's never come loose from the vise! Here's a build thread.................... http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143508

I did that too. Can't say enough about how well it works!

    Someone needs to buy this...

What a misleading CL ad! I'd drop $500 on that in a heartbeat except I'm in California!

    Rolling back speedometers

A friend of mine just rolled back the speedo on his motorcycle. He tried the drill method and it barely moved. IIRC he went to an electronics store and bought a small DC motor for a couple of bucks. It spins at a ridiculously high RPM. Rolled the speedo back 7000 miles in about 2 minutes!
