Booster takes pedal to the floor

Wow that's good to know. I have the disc/disc. The rears are the GM adjustable parking brake ones that are a bear to adjust. I think they are both adjusted properly, now. So maybe there's a drive in the near future.

Booster takes pedal to the floor

Sarge, Thanks. I don't actually know the answer. I haven't looked at the brakes when the engine was running. I'll have to check it out tomorrow. Maybe they actually are OK!?

Had a lot of noise coming from the front of the engine. Tracked it down to th tensioner pulley. Replaces it and solved the problem - finally an easy fix that actually worked. The extra spark from connecting the battery was probably the AC unit looking for the door position on start up. Anyhow...

Booster takes pedal to the floor

I have the Corvette master with the 7" dual diaphragm booster from Speedway. With the engine not running I have a pretty good pedal. Following trouble shooting instructions, I pump the pedal and hold it down. Then start the engine. The pedal is supposed to drop about 1/4". Mine goes all the...

I gotta admit, never once have I thought about the need to re-build vacuum advance. I didn't know anyone did it or that it could be done. Interesting stuff.

Yeah, too much grief. I'm having a difficult time motivating myself to work on the brakes again. I feel like I have been close to a drive since May. Now, I'm hoping for a drive this weekend.

Got that right rear caliper/parking brake adjusted per CPP instructions, I think. Have more pedal, but couldn't bring myself to take another brake fluid bath. So that's all I worked on.

Thanks Old Iron, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who had problems with them. Fired it up this morning and the clutch seems to working OK. But, still have a brake issue. The right rear parking brake isn't tight enough, but there may be something else going on as well. It seems like...

I had forgotten what a pain points can be. Haven't had any for decades. Good to know you got it figured out.

I'm glad it helped you out. The internal slaves do work, usually. Seems like most people just install them and go about driving. Mine went south from the beginning partly because of an incompatible clutch, but mostly because I didn't know what I was doing. The thing I am sure of is that a...

    Peabody's 37 GMC

I just found this build and read it all. Gotta admit, it made me a little jealous when you took it for a test ride without a hitch. Nice work [cl[cl[cl

    1955 Ranch Wagon Cruiser

To figure out how much travel was needed to disengage the clutch, I used a ratchet strap to pull it until I could turn the engine without the wheels moving. I needed about 7/8". I wasn't sure how much travel the slave had, so I took it off and measured. It has a stroke of 1.4" and a bore of...

With the external slave at least I know I can make it work one way or another. As said before I got the TOB and clutch fork a while ago and test fit it when the trans was out waiting for the pressure plate. There is a ball stud on the passenger side of the bell housing with a lot of adjustment...

Clutch slave and bracket The slave is Autozone pn 11887, 84-95 Toyota 4 Runner. I had another slave with a longer shaft so I swapped shafts. These push type slaves don't have a stop, so if you pump too much fluid in the piston will come out of the housing. Sizing the master with the slave is...

    1955 Ranch Wagon Cruiser

Yeah, it took me less than 30 seconds to decide to get rid of that internal slave when I saw fluid dripping out of the bell housing. Hanging in there is getting tough. Every day I think "I could be driving it today" -but it's getting hard to believe it any more. Brake fluid and paint is...

I'm glad to hear the finger healed. I was wondering if it would be a major issue. A couple dumb questions: What is the round slotted thing under the ARP bolt package. What is a 406? I know of 340's, 383's, 426's, 440's. But I have no idea where the 406 came from.

Yeah, I have used the external slaves twice - on the 3100 and on the F2stang. They are both still working well without any maintenance. Most of the problems I'm having with the clutch and the internal slave, revolve around the decision to use the Ford trans with the Chevy engine.

More Clutch I followed JFG455's instructions and after about 5 tries I began to get some resistance on the pedal (thought I'd done that before, but?). Each time the pedal resistance moved up a bit, until ..... it didn't. I decided to check out what was happening underneath. Brake fluid was...

Thanks Old Iron and JFG, I'll give that a try. Thanks for the back-up, I ordered a new, different style MC yesterday. I'm not too excited about changing it out though.

    1955 Ranch Wagon Cruiser

Here's my new clutch fitting set-up with a bleed screw at the very top. So far there is no pedal, it moves with no resistance. The internal hydraulic Throw Out Bearing does not even twitch. I have: 1. Pushed fluid with my reverse bleeder into the upper and lower bleed screws. 2. Pulled a...
