Here's the fitting for a road draft tube on my manifold and a mocked up look at the motor. I'm still sorting through valve covers as the set that I got to go this motor ended up having a nasty crack in them. I also bought a vintage Mallory duel points tach drive distributor for it.

    51 Willys Build

I found it on ebay but Vintage Parts USA makes them. The castings are OK but they are a bit rough. They come somewhat polished. I bead basted this one and then tumbled it for a few hours to satin it out. That helps make the rough casting int he grooves between the fins less noticeable. I...

    51 Willys Build

I did a bit more work to the Willys in the past few weeks. I bought one of these cast finned coil covers to check out. They are reasonably cool. I refinished it and built a bracket to mount it to my manifold. Before I did that, I changed out the heads, intake and put some vintage Cal Custom...

    36 Ford Bobber Build

Thanks for the pic! That helps a lot to know what the older ones look like. My block is newer so it doesn't have the port. I talked to a friend who builds motors for land speed racing as well as hotrods and I think that I will modify my manifold a little more by adding a port for a road draft...

    36 Ford Bobber Build

Man, it's been quite awhile since I last posted! I haven't been making loads of progress and a lot of what I have been doing has be parts gathering, planning, and the like so not really much to post about. I finally settled on an engine for the 36 though. I picked up a nice built SBC 383 that...

Lookin good. Those battery cutoff switches are actually really nice to have. Any time you need to do electrical work with no power, you can just pull the key.

    51 Willys Build

I converted my ignition to a keyless combo switch setup. The vintage toggle switches are a combination for the ignition and the cool old start switch is the starter. I had to do some re-engineering on the start switch as it was originally set up as a positive ground switch I guess. It only...

Mac, that's a cool idea. I like it. It's nice that the sweep on those gauges matches the cutouts in the originals.

Since the heater core is exposed on the bottom of this heater, I made a grill that mounts the the heater's mounting studs. It should protect the heater core from getting kicked in the cramped passenger foot well.

Mac, Looks killer! I love those batwings! What did you end up with for gauges? The only ones that I have found are the Stewart Warners and they are super spendy typically! More engine setbacks over the weekend! The block I was ready to build turned out to be cracked. I was hoping that the...

    Rebuilding and Re-Wiring a SignalStat 700

I recently rebuilt and rewired a SignalStat 700 that was in my 36 when I got it. Here's my attempt at writing up what I did and why. Please feel free to ask questions if you have them and I will do what I can to answer them. As I often do, I forgot to take a before pic of the switch. It was...

    36 Ford Bobber Build

Thanks guys. I haven't really kept track of the hours on the chop. I would say that it's at least 100 and likely a fair bit more though. That being said, it's my first chop, a pretty complicated cab to chop, the roof was caved in when I started, and I made some very time consuming mistakes...

I like the heat shield. What are you going to use for a quick release on your steering wheel? I ended up machining a 3 bolt to hex/with lock groove adapter for mine since I didn't want to weld the shaft adapter that came with it onto my aftermarket column.

    51 Willys Build

I decided to refinish the old Hadees heater that was in my Willys when I got it. I wasn't originally planning to have a heater but I have since decided that it would be pretty nice once in awhile. I'll try to get it installed this week and post some pics in the truck.

I also picked up some cool rear mount Stewart Warner gauges from a buddy. I had to re-case one of them to get a working gauge in a rear mount case that fits my dash. Turns out that it's pretty hard to find gauges that fit the factory holes in the dash in a 36. I feel like I got pretty lucky...
