    My Dodge Bros coupe!

Love the color combination, Bob. Really brings out the louvered trunk lid well.

Haha, Bob, if this intake wasn't a gift from my sons, I would probably do the same thing you did. The setup looks cool, but I am not sure what you need to do to make it run right. I mentioned in an earlier post that it dawned on my that when I pulled off the tripower intake that my new intake...

Bruno, you are exactly right. I have never had a brand new crate engine, I always just built a motor from a used engine, and NEVER had had so many issues in my life. This thing just keeps sucking up more and more money every day.

Thanks for the suggestions, ZZ. Yep, the tripower intake is brand new out of the box. When I laid it bare on the heads with no gaskets to check the fit, a .003 feeler gauge would just slide under it, so it seems like the heads and intake match. You are probably right about that oil just...

Here, I messed up. This is the picture of the backside of the intake gaskets, the side that goes on the head.

Thanks guys for all the input. Today was tear down day. I got all the parts removed including the distributor, carbs, and intake, after I drained the cooling system (again). When I pulled off the brand new intake gaskets that I just installed a few days ago, they really looked strange...

Thanks, guys. Yep, while it is disappointing, I have to remember that this is simply a hobby, not something that is super important. But I am tired of bleeding money and time on this &*^%%$ tripower setup, just for the looks it would give the car. I have no idea how people put 6 or 8 carbs...

    RPU, bodywork underway.

Today I got the final parts installed, made up my plug wires, and it was time to start it for the first time. I cranked and cranked and all it did was backfire and spit, and it would not start. I played around with everything I could think of , but it made no difference, it just would not...

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. I only have a couple of hours work to do and I should be able to test fire this thing . If there is still a problem this is going to become the worlds heaviest paperweight !

Got a lot done today. I took my time to make sure the intake mounting surfaces were spotless, and then I used some high tack to hold the gaskets in place while I used The Right Stuff to make end seals. I torqued the intake down in 3 steps, finally ending up at 25 pounds or torque. A also...

Well, my two sets of gaskets arrived today from Summit, and I will only be using the second set that FelPro suggested. It isn't worth me sending back the other set because the freight cost would eat up any money I would have coming back, so I will keep them for some future project. My game...

Haha, glad to see that even the pros screw up occasionally. I think all of us have bought cars and then found things like wrenches hiding somewhere in the engine compartment.

Haha, hey, this stuff can happen real easy. Many years ago, I bought a 66 GTO from a friend who was working on it and he was putting the nut back on the air cleaner stud while the engine was running (he had removed the air cleaner). He had lost the wing nut sometime in the past, and had...

Thanks guys. Bob, I am going to use shorter bolts for sure, and will run them down into the holes first to make sure they do not bottom out and the do not contact any pushrods, good point. Kenny and Skip, haha, more than the vacuum has sucked on this project so far. Tripper, no, it has manual...

    RPU, bodywork underway.

Yep Bob, it backfired a few times........good point. You may also be right because in the beginning, when I first got it running, it ran better than it has recently, so probably the gasket has gotten worse and worse. Hopefully, this new one should cure the problem. I have decided to name...

Yep, you are right, and the middle ones need some sealant on them so the oil will not wick up the threads and escape. One thing I am going to change is the stainless AN washers I had under each intake bolt. I did it for cosmetics originally, but when I removed the bolts I found each washer was...

They are factory cast iron heads and brand new. So there should be no problem with them sealing. Like I said earlier, in my 23 I pulled an engine out of a boat, rebuilt it, and put on an aluminum intake and it sealed perfectly. Why this one did this is probably because I did the install some...

Ok, I called FelPro and got a very helpful guy there. I told him all the details and what I have bought so far, and he recommended a gasket set that I had not ordered yet. He asked me if I needed the heat crossover to be open for the choke, and I said no, I have the choke locked up and I am in...

    RPU, bodywork underway.

I did exactly that, OI, and it fit very tight against the heads. I also always throw away those rubber end seals and use The Right Stuff sealant in a thin bead. I think what I may have done wrong was overseal the last time, I really gooped the sealant on and maybe it was keeping the intake...
