1929 Chevy front axle question

I am going to look at a 1929 chevy front axle this weekend and was wondering if they are strong. Havent found and engine yet but may go 4.3, 350, or slant 6(leaning tower of power!)
$100 drum to drum and he has an extra bare axle for $50, so they are in my price range.
any thoughts would be helpful. Im learning as i go

Nothing there for any use in a hot rod. Save your $100 and leave that for a restorer.

Bummer, i have searched high and low and it all that i found. Dont have the cash for new stuff.
