Hello...we are starting our second build and I hope to document it here better than our first build. We plan to put a 8v92 Detroit Diesel on a custom frame with cab and front end off a 1949 IH KB3 pickup.

We sourced the engine from a military auction and have started tearing it down to rebuild the top end.

The truck was purchased locally as a rolling chassis with cab and front end intact.

Our first step will be to make the front fenders 7" wider on each side so the new axle does not stick out of the fenders.

That engine must have been for some kind of stationary use. I don't remember ever seeing one with the turbo's mounted on top like that. What HP rating is it? 435 or so? I drove a Ford LTL 9000 a few times with a 435 in it, as long as you kept it rev'ed up, it would pull a mountain. Lots of torque in the old 2 strokes, with a sound all their own.

TLouisJ KB3

Awww...a classic Korn Binder. I've had 3 over the decades. '46 KB1 with a 283 sbc, a stock '37 pickup, and a '41 KB1 panel truck with a KB3 front end that I put a 261 ci Chevy 6 into. Don't ask me why I did that. Shoulda used the Black Diamond 6 from the KB3. Love those old KBs. Cool project. :) TLJ

Nice Engine

A lot of the charter boats around here have 892`s.
They run forever, parts are cheap, and just about anyone can repair them.
The boats with them have a Roar all there on.[dr
Most shrimp boats have the 671,871 or 1271 depending on size of boat.
A shrimper in Georgetown has a 671 in it built in 1939.It shrimps just about every day,no problems.
The 2 stroke GM`s are the toughest, longest lasting diesels ever built.
