P1800 Cool !!!

I love those too but didn't think they started makin' them till '63 or 4 but looks like they started in '61. My buddy had a station wagon 1800 he swapped a 283 into. That sucker was BAD!!! He was also one of the best guitar players I knew but he got married & had kids & that was the end of that!

What's a 61 volvie coupe look like anyways?

Racer,
The 1st one is a 544 the 2nd is a 120 series (i think this 1 is a 122). All models also came in wagons! The 120 was a little more civilized (IMO) but the 544 was almost indestructible. Someone posted a P1800 sports version earlier in this thread, it came in a wagon too! Their commercials back in the 60's said... "Drive it like you hate it" & showed someone drivin' the h3ll out of one on a dirt road! They made great rally cars. My brothers had several 544's & A 120, my mother had several 244's (next to last picture). The 544, 120 & 1800 came with 4-bangs & funky sidedraft SU carbs but my oldest brother put 4 Webers on his & it really woke that motor up.

There is a 544 out side of Dayton Washington for sale. My son looked at it and wanted to buy it. A built Volvo motor with all factory and aftermarket Volvo hipo parts, the interior is one bucket seat, the roll bar isn't in yet but ready for one. He bought a 67 2 stroke Saab coupe instead......kids.

that one was a 59 or so i was told, i had two others that were a 64 and 62, all looked the same to me :p. they are all gone now :( i'm always see old volvos for cheap-nobody wants them. It's good when your buying, bad when your selling. One thing to look for is rust! they are notorious for very serious rust issues, especially the 544. The one in the pics was in solid shape but 62 i had was falling apart from rust issues.

The 1800 is the only one I would consider a coupe, the 120/544s pictured are 2 door sedans. I did see a picture over on the HAMB of a 120 series made into a coupe. The 1800ES (wagon) is cool, they refused to make them ugly to comply with the 1975 federal bumper laws and quit sending them over.
I have a friend in Anchorage with a restored 57 sedan and a 58 Wagon. The wagon sold new in Anchorage and I think was one of three sold in that town that year.
In the early 80s there was a 262C bertone that they considered a coupe. It was a regular 262 with a chopped roof and a few other changes but had that awful V6 motor.
