1979 Ford F-150 Front End

Hey Guys,

I know what's needed, but I don't know the correct terminology. I'm trying to find the front end of this 1979 Ford F-150. I'm not a car guy, give me a computer, I can fix that.

I've tried looking online for after market parts, or junk yard parts. I keep getting things in regards to broncos, and I don't want to pay $100 for something, with $50 in shipping only to find out it doesn't work.

So, what exactly is it called? "Front Grille"? I'm looking for the piece that holds it all together, and helps keep the lights in a fixated position. Going over railroad tracks turns my lights off

Is it possible to custom build one, would it be easy? Would 1/16th inch steel and some wire mesh (Like this; http://www.gpxit.co.uk/ebay_photos/alnet/small/blacklarge.jpg) work? I plan on putting a light bar in the front.

One of the most important tool you can have is a shop manual - for older stuff, I like to get the factory manuals - not Chiltons or Hayes, etc. - I suggest one of these: http://www.themotorbookstore.com/19fotrshma3o.html

Both LMC and MAC have free catalog requests and online catalogs. They sometimes aren't the best or cheapest, but have most everything that is available for your truck. They usually have blow apart pics that can help you figure out what parts are missing or what you need.


Instead of posting in a bunch of different threads, go to the Builds Section and start your own build thread. That way all your info is in one spot, and we can all follow along. It'll be easier to jump in and help you too.

Well, these are the only two I need help with for now. I keep getting pulled over for 3 things, front grill, headlights, and noise complaints. Two of those I can fix, the third is only going to get worse with a 4 Barrel carb.

Thanks so much for those links. I haven't posted in the build thread yet because I was trying to respect the forums as much as I could. It's not a rat rod, even though it kind of looks like one, nothing is shiny on it at all, haha. But since you suggested it, I'll post there later tonight when I wake up. Thanks a bunch, Sam. Now I have more options to expand on. After this truck, comes the 96 Ford, I guess it's true what they say. Ford's are like bad girlfriends, they either break your heart or your wallet

B.D. most of us like any thing with wheels, old paint and wheels is even better. There are a lot of ride here that are not quit rat rods but they meet the criteria. (see above).
