Depends on what you mean by Bolt In, I guess. The flywheel, clutch and bell will fit the 235, no problem. If it is going in your '49 Chevy, a '54 235 is the right length, a newer one with the longer water pump will require some work. Either move the rad ahead or adapt the 216 water pump onto the 235.
I don't remember what mounts the '49 uses. Some old cars mounted on a flange on the plate behind the timing gears, some had side mounts. And the '55-up engines with side mounts are probably a different bolt pattern, anyway. The front plate mount can be made to work by welding a piece of flatiron to the 235 plate after taking off the timing gear cover. If you pull the camshaft you can put the 216 plate on the 235, but that's a lot of work. I just weld one up.
If you want a "fooler", put the 216 valve cover on too. Use the two long bolts from the 216, it bolts right on. That said, the newer one with a real breather is a better setup than the louvered holes that let water in the engine too easily.
The 236 will make a much better driver out of your '49. Find a 3.55 Powerglide rear end and add 10 mph to the cruise speed. If you find a '53 or '54 parts car, grab the front brakes too, they are much better. Also the suspension uprights lower the front end 1 1/2" on a '49.
