I've thought about one just for funzies, but got too many projects to fund as is right now. THey are the way of the future to be sure.

agreed.

I really get in to my RC stuff and thought it might be neat to make my own RC parts. Especially since I like the scale realism stuff. Scale 4x4 off road trucks and such. I like scratch building stuff, just thought this might be the next step. $5-800 you can get a machine kit to print 8x8x4" stuff. Seems like an OK deal. Figured if I did get one. I may be able to print a bunch of RC stuff and sell it to pay for the machine. Dunno tho.

I think it will be coming to the mainstream soon, keep watching.

The resolution or quality of the ones out right now may not yield the smoothness you are looking for.
I know we have one at work that is a pretty big unit and can do some cool stuff, but the realistic quality and structural ability is crap... So I would check out demo pieces printed from the unit before you buy it.

I hear ya DR, but for what I would do I wouldn't need for it to be structural, but finish would be key. I would definitely request samples before buying one.

I looked at a couple different ones. Just not sure that I want to spend the loot on one yet.

Was looking at a cheap Reprap one. About $550, figured I may be able to build a bigger frame with longer belts and such to print a larger area. But ya get what ya pay for most of the time.

Looked at some of the small makerbot ones also but those are $1400+. Most of them are pricey.

Really would like to be able to print like a 12x12" piece but thats about $6000!!!
