All of these look cool. Mine is different then others I did a frame swap using a 84 ranger frame and a 1950 inline flathead 6 ford. I do plan on lowering it a few inches both front and rear. Just the hood and a grill in front with just the sides of the box and some old barn boards i have for the bed.
Not looking for real power just some thing to have fun with and putt around town.

52 F1 rat update

So its been a long time since I posted anything here, well this is what i have been working on.

Put in the steering shaft again, didn,t like it the first time. Got the seat in and to fit and work the way it needs to and feel right when you sit behind the wheel. Clutch and brake peddels in and master cycilnders monted to the fire wall and the brakes working. Still have to do the clutch slave cyclinder but since i have to replace the pressure plate clutch disc throwout bearing and have the fly wheel ground i figured it would be better to mount the slave cyclinder when the trans is on the bench.

I also bought and stripped and sold another truck keeping several parts including a inline 6 and trans and many other boxes of parts, some of wich are on my truck already.

Used the grille from the parts truck. Bought a alternator and radiator. mounted the power steering pump with the alt. Made the tabs for the radiator and have it mocked in place with the grille and the hood even closes. Did a small trim job on the ends of the frame.

So thats that for now post a few more when i get more work done.

F1 Rat.

More things have been done. Made all the linkage for the gas peddle and even a silly swirl egg shape peddle. finished my exhaust, used a left over Harley Sportser exhaust front pipe. It comes under the frame and ends just behind the front wheel ----open all the way. Rebuilt the starter. Fab ed the linkage for the trans and the shift levers. 1 lever is for 1st and rev, the other lever is for 2nd and 3rd. 2 levers side by side where you would normally find one. Finished the steering colum ....chrome harley exhaust again and it looks good. I needed some thing to mount turn signals to. Put the bed sides on no bed just going to use sides for now.
I still have to get a drive shaft made and wire the whole thing plus hoses to the rad.

And this is what i have! Oh and the sign helps keep the neighbors out of the yard HAHA.

F1 Progress

Todays progress was in wrapping up some lose ends. Items such as shift levers, putting in the tach (still need to wire it) gas filler neck.
Took another 48 grill and cut the area around the headlights welded tham to the back side of the 48 grill i am using, then to cover up the headlight bucket hole i put a couple of hub caps on.
The shift levers looked like he(( so out with the grinder.... did a little fun work on them.
Moved the gas filler neck the the driver side as i am using the 84 ranger gas tank, it just kinda worked out. Oh and the last pic is of the harley exhaust i am using no baffels.

And just had a good day in the garage with the ultra low budget F1

I've missed this build. Way cool! I'm really liking the grill treatment - kinda surprised how good it looks that way.

I thought the Ranger front end was hard to lower - what's your plan?

Ranger Front

There are a few ways to lower the front of the ranger. There are I beams that can be put in to lower it, and what i am thinking is i might bag the front. Lowered when parked - raised while driving. I do want to put some small tires on the front 14's and 15's on the back with taller tires. The back i am planning on lowering about 1 3/4 inch or so by flipping the spring shackel.

Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks

The rat MOVES

Well tonight was just for checking the clutch and making sure it worked okay. Pushed it out of the garage as the fumes would kill me, threw in a battery and went at it primming the feul sytem and dumping gass down the carb to get it to run on its own. After a little idel adjustment it was fine the 59 year old motor runs good for never being opened up.

After messing with the throw the clutch setup worked fine. My question is that the slave cylinder pushes on the shift fork ( a small amount of pressure) It did the same when i pulled the styem from the ranger. So will i be going thru throwout bearing or not?

Oh and the open exhaust is great made the neighbors come outside when it backfired:D

Of course it would be best if there were no pressure on the shift fork but if
there is still free play and it is not riding the throw out bearing there is no problem. Sure like this low budget, use what you got build. Like the flathead six "putt around motor" :)

Iraqi sign

I see by the sign in back of your Rat that you or someone you know has been to Iraq. My son is in Bagdad now. Works for Dyncorp.

I like the idea of multiple shifters for the trans, I've seen it in drag cars (on Pinks, LOL).
Anyone know of a good place to get information on how to do that?
I always thought of it as a kind of theft protection in my 4x4s. Someone takes a look in the vehicle, sees all the shifters & thinks, "There's no way I could drive that!"

Maybe 2 for the trans and get an external overdrive. Possibly a trans with a pto for a 4th one.

B-)
