I dont have the money for a new electric wipper set up on my 52 chevy rat now .the vac ones seems to be stuck.
Can anyone tell me how to make my vacume opperated ones work for now??
I had a 49 coupe onced and they worked real good untill you kiced in the four barrle ,but i dont need a four barrle in the rain now any how.[i know ,i know , i was young and dumb .what can i say]

Have you tried to put any vacumn to the wiper motor? If so and it dosent work.Take the motor off and take it apart. It may have some debris in there such as some rust from being inop for some time.I have seen the electrcal set ups with the wiper arm and all ready to go for under 50.00.

Here is a bunch http://search.ebay.com/wiper-motor-kit_W0QQfkrZ1QQfnuZ1QQfsooZ2QQfsopZ32

If you have a West Marine or a Boaters World near. They have complete wiper motor kits in stock.

Vacuum wiper motors are very simple......just a valve and a leather piece on a swing arm. Take it apart, clean it up , lube the leather so it seals...........simple.

Ditch those vac wipers!

Tom,
Please ditch those vac wipers & get some elec ones from the junk yard. Vac wipers are really dangerous and there's a reason they are not used anymore! Trust me on this one, any gray beard here will tell you the same!

Dangerous????
How are they dangerous?
Havent seen anyone go to the junkyard and find a wipper motor to fit yet on the 47-53? I have seen it done on the 54-55 but thats a differant animal. It would be nice to find some one who made one work if it would save money .
I realize that the 150.00 kits are a good deal ,but i'm just to broke to buy that right know ....mabie some rain x????has any one used any before? I drove it in the rain the other day and it was'nt all that bad so i can wait and try to save up some money for the kit.

Vac wipers suck!!!

Tom,
I had a few trucks back in the day with vac wipers. It's raining... u step on the gas & whoops... the wipers stop workin'!!! U're on the road & go to pass another car in the rain... whoops... no wipers. I've had it happen... it sucks & is *very* scary!!!

Ok ,i see what your talkin about ,my 49 did that if you kicked the 4 barrle on too .but really shoulnd be going so fast in the rain any how !
This truck with the 10 inch rear wheels is scary in the rain any ways,i have to be carefull not to spin out or hydroplain !

vac wipers

i had them in my 40 ford and yes they were scary , but what if you added a vacuum resivior perhaps 2 of them that should eliminate the loss of wipers during accelleration and the hi speed movement during decelleration. sounds possible at least[P

I put a Mopar electric wiper motor on my '54 Chev. Take off the vacuum motor. There's a shaft with a piece of channel on it that drives the wipers. I made an arm that went in the channel, and a link over to the electric motor that has a crank on it. You can spot weld the arm to the channel, or do like I did and bolt a retainer strap across the vac motor retaining bolts. Not as pretty as the "store-bought" kits, but it works! And it's cheap!
