Phoenix has a huge Craigslist with many pages of cars and trucks added every day. I just realized there are almost no 70's cars and very few trucks. There are much more 60's than 70's. Mostly forgettable cars for sure but i still fantasize about cutting the top off a big ol' 70's something.A whole decade has been crushed.

gas crunch

the late 70's gas crunch, demo derbys, parts scavenging and the high price of scrap has drastically helped there demise.

Later

Not to mention the rotten steel they were built with in the first place. I don't think the '80 will generally fair much better.

Heres alot on the other side of the hill in the pueblo CO craigslist. but in see about 10 a day heading to he local crusher every day. 2 to 3 of the old tin:( a week

I can think of a few reasons: the fake woodgrain, terrible build quality, no power, crumbling plastic interiors, vinyl tops, overly complicated emmissions nightmares, etc

I think due to the lack of redeeming qualities, and paying mechanics to chase endless vacuum line & electrical gremlins, it made more sense just to scrap them then try to keep them alive.

Hey I got my 79 Volare running! I had to replace 300 yards of vacuum lines, but now I'm back up to the full 90hp! Sweet.

That said, I do like some of the big boats, but not enough to put money into one.

I spent the winter of 78/79 in a motel in Phoenix, just off McDowell and rt 101. I was blown away by the number of 40s and 50s cars that were still being driven everyday. You guys take for granted how rust free those cars are out there in the desert. Being a gypsy biker at the time I didn't have money to buy any cars but sure wish now that I had and brought it back to Va...:(
