Does anyone know if 1973-1987 Chevy c10 longbed spindles are the same as C10 shortbed spindles?
If so, then which one has is the ackerman angle set up best?
Thanks

That makes sense, but does anyone know if the spindles are set up well with the longbed (131.5).
I'd just like to know how close they are set up to ideal because I'm considering using the front components on by '37 Buick Roadmaster which has a wheelbase of 131.
Thanks

I use bias ply tires on everything I build and the only time I've ever heard the "balloon tire" term used is in very early era (1900's era vehicles), off road RTV, and bicycle/early motorcycle type tires.

Spindles are the same.
They used different brake hubs on some trucks.I cannot remember the difference.I think the front disc rotors come in 2 different thicknesses. My cousin broke a hub and found when he went looking there were 2 different sizes, a heavy duty and light duty.My 1982 C10 work truck has the light duty ones.

Think you clicked on the wrong thread there Gastrick!![S

There is no difference. They are not going to change the spindles to get the Ackerman perfect.

Right on dmw.

Mutt, if I understand your question correctly, the truck spindles will have the same Ackermann on 131.5" as they do at 131". The difference is virtually nothing. Is the geometry ideal? Depends what your definition of ideal is. They'll work as good (or as bad) as they did on the truck. Turning radius will be the same, tire scrub the same. Are you thinking clip job? Frame swap?

I'm planning on using upper and lower control arms from the Chevy truck on my buick. I've looked at tons of suspensions and these have control arms very close to mine. Onlyu slight shifts in the lower mounts are required.

Does anyone have a 73-88 Chevy LB.
How does it handle and do you have tire scrub?

Thanks

That is an excelant question. I'm sure the auto makers just made some sort of compromise so the same parts work on all models. Think of the one ton duallys that had wheel bases from around 130 up to 160 or more.
It's good to see you guys thinking about this stuff, half of the guys hand building rods don't even know what ackerman is.
