I know, this is probably really far fetched and possibly on the wrong board but if figured this one probably gets the most attention. So, here goes.... I have been wanting to find a rat for quite a long time now for my boys and I to spend some time together with and learn but I have hit a brick wall. I cannot seem to find much around where I live. Oh, and besides the fact that I have another project that I would have to get rid of to fund the rat or do a possible trade. What I have is a 68 F100 short bed with the original 360 big block with a 3 sp on the column. I would like to find something that is 30's to 50's. I obviously dont have much money because of the size of family I have. I know some of you guys have talked about having "a few" projects and didnt know if someone would be interested in possibly getting rid of something. I just know that this would be a more fun build for the boys and I rather than the F100. If anyone would be interested, just drop me a line with some pics and we can go from there. Thanks.

Yep, most of us understand the Family Obligation thing, been there, done it. :) I imagine 5 kids consume a big chunk of the budget. Could be worse, you could have 5 Daughters and have to pay for 5 weddings!

Everyone on this forum loves Father or Mother and Kids projects........great way to instill good values and form a lifelong bond. Mine are 37 and we still play at this together. A lot of what you are trying to accomplish depends on you. You have to have an honest look at your capablilities and equipment before you begin or you can get in over your head real quick. Not saying that in any disrespectful manner whatsoever, just trying to be honest.

With a family that size you also need more than a little two seat roadster, especially if everyone wants to go for a ride at the same time. :D Right now is a perfect time to pick up something because the economy is forcing a lot of people to get rid of stuff they normally wouldn't part with. Mortgages are more important than luxuries and some people are having to make some hard decisions. You might be able to pickup a partially done full sized car from the '40's or '50's pretty reasonably and some of them were big enough to haul quite a few people. Big Olds, Buicks, Pontiacs, etc come to mind and with the use of a later model donor car you would have a more modern drivetrain to work with. Plus, these big old cars can use a wider rear axle like you could find in a wrecked full size car and also have plenty of room for an engine/transmission swap.

I bet you could sell your truck for enough to initially fund the project, then you could start the hunt for a cheap donor. I bought an '84 Ford Crown Vic a few years ago that was the proverbial Grandmas car, had 50,000 miles on it. I paid $400 for it and am still using it as my daily. They are out there, you just have to look.

Good luck, and let us know how we can help steer you in the right direction. You might not always like what we tell you, but we will always have your best interests at heart.

I know you'd like to find something a little "older" but what you've got is an awful good start. It doesn't really have to be old to be a Rat. See if you can trade with someone locally try listing it on Craigs list to start.

CC , if you look in the BS Lounge Ike has posted a thread on a friend of his that has more than a few project cars for sale, maybe he could do a trade .

dont be afraid!

CC, there are a lot of options for you. If you don't find anything closer to you I might be of some help. Dvap has a Transporting company (FnS) that goes threw your state no less then once a month so getting you something shipped isn't a problem.
We have projects ranging $1200-$4500 or even higher bepending on what you want. Give me a call some time maybe we can go over a few options
