so... been doing a conversion on my buddy's 54 chevy. pulled the original 6 and trans out, and have been installing the ever so dependable 350/350 combo.
after welding some engine mounts and making the trans crossover/rear mount. wiring up a 12 volt wiring kit with new fuse block.
getting everything to work together... hit the key and BOOOM she fires right up the first try. so i back 'er out and proceed to break in the came two 15 min. cycles at 1600 r.p.m. letin it cool between each and craking a beer and enjoying the burning of 92 octain and fresh engine enamel... oh yeah and the glare from the ol fart crossed the street, prolly cause his winders were a ratlin from the open headers, but what ya gonna do.
anyway back to the story at hand. as i'm starting er up for the second break-in duration, its humming right along, then pop and my fresh little chebby slowly creeps down to a bump, bump-ety-bump and blaaah...
a quick check in the carb shows no fuel... hmmm. gas gauge reads 1/2 tank.
pumps new, carbs freshly rebuilt,
pull the fuel line trickle trickle... pull the cap and blow air in the tank, bubble, bubble, hmm hmm.
cant be nutin in that tank just had it cleaned and sealed (accordin to my buddy)
plumb in a fuel pressure gauge 'tween the pump and carb... 3 p.s.i.
first thought, bad pump. then thought pull fuel line off bottom of tank......
trickle, trickle, screw this lets drop the tank shouldnt be hard was just out right?
well rusty bolts on the tank straps tells me somebody fibbin to somebody...and they got some 'xplaining to do!
drop the tank, hmmm hummm, hummm. half tank just like gauge says, lets pull the sending unit just to see whats going on in there..................................
