I don't see why not... I mated a TH350 speedo cable to a 53 Chrysler speedo... Bench test it first, if the speedo end of the cable fits in the hole/socket and threads onto the speedo, hook a drill on the transmission end of the cable and give it a whirl, if it runs up to 60 mph or so, it should be fine... You already know the trans end of the cable will fit the trans...

thing is that i have to go buy one. I'de hate to waste a few bucks on something that wont work.

next question. when i hook the drill up which way does it have to spin? Counter clockwise right? that seems to make the most sense

If the speedo needle sweeps left to right, turn it clockwise. The only positive mechanical hook up is to the odometer it self through a set of small gears. The speedo is a magnet attached to the cable side of things, while the needle is on a shallow canister/drum that the magnet rotates inside of, but is not attached to. The magnetic force of the rotating magnet drags the canister/drum around in a circle, (while the vehicle is moving) against the tension of a light spring that controls the canister/drum, and returns it toward zero when you slow or stop. Without the spring, it would just whip around to the needle stop, and stay there. Even if you went with a backward rotation, it won't cause any damage. The needle would rest against the stop and the odometer would start to unwind mileage readings, but that's it. When I was a kid they said I was wrecking stuff when I tore things apart. Ha...I was getting an education!! Sniper

It was a few months ago when I bench tested mine, but I believe I ran the drill clockwise... As Professor Sniper explained, it won't hurt it if you run it the opposite way... Also since you are mating a GM tranny with a GM speedo, it should fit fine... I'm sure there are many 50's Fleetside trucks on the road with original speedo and TH400 trans...

good to hear guys. Now i just gotta hit up the u-pull-it yard. Need a good fan too. I'm always looking for reasons to go junk yard'in
