I figure that since I travel so often for work, I should start hauling small freight transfers in my truck along the way. Anyone else ever consider this? I'm out in Detroit right now for work and just submitted a bid for a small, light pallet going to North Chicago. The guy accepted and it's basically a free $100 bill in my pocket.

I do this lots when im working, defently heps pay for your fuel then some as long as you know what you are transportin its all good :)

I've made a couple trips that way. A few years back I had a truck I bought in Yakima and needed to get it. Got on the HAMB and found a car chassis that needed to go to Palmdale Cali. for a grand. Picked up another car nearby and hauled it to Spokane for another grand and also took a pair of 54 Chevy fenders along for the ride. It wasn't a huge miney maker, had to buy 2 new trailer tires and still got home $450 to the good, plus saved the $1500 it was going to cost me to ship the car I had in Wa.
Just be careful that you understand all the consequences of a worse case scenario when you start taking people's money for a service. Does your insurance cover someone else's property that you are hauling for money?
