ok, so i got my valve covers painted and i'm waiting on some other stuff. I've got an old tool box i want to cut up and turn into a carb scoop that sticks through the hood. I've still got to make all of my measurements but how do you guys attach yours to the carb? I looked on summit and they sell a scoop mounting dealie made out of billet for $80! too much money and i don't want billet anyways. I was thinking about going to osh and getting some really long studs, run nuts all the way down to bolt the carb down, then slip the scoop over the studs and let it rest ontop of the carb, then run some nuts down the studs to make it nice and secure on top of the carb. then slip my air filter in and wing-nut the sucker down on the carb. am i on the right track? (i know...my exhaust isn't done yet, it's just plain demoralizing though, so i'm going to do some easy stuff for now to make myself enjoy the truck again, then i'll work on the exhaust some more)

Long bolts that are a pain to start in. Just enough hand clearance to stab the bolts.

Joe. I made this scoop out of sheetmetal. I cut a hole in the baseplate and welded the bottom of a small air cleaner to it. I used the filter and lid from the same unit. That way, the filter sits inside of a lip and doesn't want to move around. I used a length of 1/4-20 threaded rod to make a stud and installed the stud in the carb. Then the whole deal installs like a normal air filter with a retaining nut on the filter lid inside the scoop.
